Wedding Dress Shopping - Pandemic Production Times?

AJ, on May 18, 2021 at 11:42 AM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 27

Just wondering if I should start wedding dress shopping earlier than the "standard timeline" due to the pandemic?

I was going to start looking in September/October since my wedding is October 2022, but now I'm not sure if I should go earlier since I heard it might take a year or more now to get a dress....

Anyone have any knowledge if this is true, will it take longer than usual to get a dress?

Mine took 5 months to come in. I think a year may be OK, but it may be safe to go earlier. Especially if you want a lot of alterations.

Would also love to know since my wedding is Sep 2022 and your timeline is also what I was planning on doing!

My mom told me always lie about your date so that you know you'll get it on time and it won't be a last minute thing. I might go in August or September, I'm thinking August

I ordered 9 months out & it came in 4 months, & about 1.5 months earlier than expected. I think it depends on the designer, & you should ask the salon about the designer’s usual timing.

Wow, that is awesome advice! Every lady in my family wants to attend so I am thinking August too as it is the most flexible time for everyone! Smiley smile

I would definitely start shopping early! My dress arrived passed the estimated date due to shipping delays, which I imagine is affecting the entire production line.

I did that with my prom dress, so I'll probably do it with my wedding dress, I don't want to have to worry about last minute things, I'm not sure how early to say though maybe a month before? I'll have to ask my mom lol

I bought mine in July when they just opened back up and received it 8 months later in March (it was customized). Got alterations done within 2 months. picked it up yesterday for my May 28 wedding. So yes I'd say 1 year is more than enough time.

I ordered my dress early October and it came in April 1. They told me 10 months and it came in 6. I would start now just to be sure. If it really took 10 months plus shipping delays I would have been cutting it close.

I have an idea of what I like, but its hard envisioning it when the models are 6ft tall, and have a nice size bust lol! I'm short and small bust. Do you know what you like?

Also she told me to tell them my wedding is end of September, so tell them its actually a month earlier lol

Yeah I am dreaming of the Zander dress by Maggie Sottero in the champagne color! So I will tell my person in Denver that we are getting married in August lol. Zander dress is my dream dress, I always go back to it! We thought we would have to go all the way to Texas to get it, but Denver has it in plus size! Still about a 5 hour drive for us, but totally worth it Smiley smile

I love Maggie Sottero, I have my eye on Johanna but Zander is gorgeous! But I can never make up my mind, I really won't know until I try on!

I went to David's Bridal just to figure out the silhouette and still love the A-line dresses so I think I will still end up loving the Zander. What really sold me was the huge canyon behind her in the photos lol, basically my wedding colors and we will be right next to a huge canyon called... "Red Canyon" lol, real original name. Honestly I will be happy with whatever feels right but usually when I see something I am not one to waiver from it Smiley smile Just looked up the Johanna, it is beautiful!!

That will be gorgeous! I'm getting married at an apple orchard (end of apple picking season though) and its in a barn so I want something floral or lace - I do like a-line as well!

Depending on where you are ordering from, I think the times are fairly back to normal. I ordered my dress from DB right at the beginning of the pandemic when things were shutting down and I still got it within the allotted time. But I went dress shopping early (thank goodness because it was right before the pandemic) so I'm always an advocate for going early!

Production times seem to be back to normal! I’d say shop 10-12 months out. That typically gives enough time for production and alterations. Much earlier, you risk what you like changing. Much later, you risk paying rush fees. (For reference, I’m getting married this October - purchased my dress in November and got it in April! It came about 4 weeks before I expected it! 😊)

If youʻre an indecisive person who may take a while to find what they like or even may be prone to dress regret, and/or fluctuate in weight meaning alterations may be variable or extensive, I would say about a year out is good.

If youʻre fairly decisive and not worried about dress regret or needing lots of alterations, then you could probably get away with the 6-9 months out tradition.
