I agree with PP. I don't think it will look bad necessarily, but it probably won't be very comfortable to walk/dance in.

I talked to my seamstress about this. She said she usually tries to go for somewhere in the middle, so maybe just a little short of the ceremony (usually not enough to be noticeable by guests) and a little longer for the reception (but not too long you will be tripping).

I took both pairs of shoes with me to my alterations appointment and once we added the petticoat under it, and my ceremony heels, it was the perfect length. She could have taken a half inch up so that it wouldn't be quite as long for the reception, but I decided it wasn't worth the money. Once it is bustled, it kind of pulls up the length anyway. I walked around in my reception shoes and didn't think it would be much of a problem.

I'm going to have the same problem as you, we might be tripping over our dresses, so I'm going to change into a second dress, I'm having a winter wedding where snow would be a possibility so I'm wearing these booties!
