Wedding Dress Shawdowbox

Mrs. Koalajetski, on May 31, 2017 at 10:00 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 13

Does anyone know where to get a shadowbox that fits a wedding dress? I've googled and didn't find anything other than one that only shows the top of the dress but I'd like one that fits the whole dress so it's all on display. I've tried Michael's as well. I know I could just hang it up on a hanger to be shown and save money but I've always loved a dress in a shadow box look. Thanks in advance!

I haven't seen any that big, but my best guess is to get 2-3 jersey size shadow boxes and combine them somehow.

You're actually better off getting a preservation kit from David's bridal or whatnot... A shadowbox won't keep mildew, dust, etc from your dress, and won't stop your dress from yellowing.

I've never seen this. You want to display it in your home after the wedding? Sound strange but I like it..

Yeah I saw this pic online a few weeks ago & thought it looked like a great idea!! (No doubt it's pricey, though)

I love the idea of this, I would display it in our large walk in closet though. Not sure where to find one though!

Yeah I planned to have this hung up on display in our walk in closet cause I hate the idea of keeping it bagged up. He adores my dress so he's all for the idea as long as it doesn't cost a ton to do. I've found ones where you see just the bodice but was hoping to get lucky and find one that'll show the entire thing.

I used to work in Michaels framing. When I started back in the frame shop, a wedding dress and tux were what they were working on. It'll probably cost you at least $1000, but if I remember correctly that lady's was order was 2k for the dress and then another 2k for the tux. That is a VERY difficult and tedious job. I remember we had to re-order and redo that order more than once because in the process of trying to put together something that big it's not uncommon for materials to get damaged. Your dress will be sewn down to the mat board, and will only look good if you get lucky enough to have an experienced framer to the work. If you're set on doing this, you might have to go to more than one location, because I know some framers, especially at Michaels will turn the job down. It's a big liability for the store if your dress gets damaged. If you want to save money but still have something framed. Do a shadow box with your veil, garter, invite, and wedding photo. It will turn out beautifully. If you have Michaels do that, you'll probably only spend around 300, and it will be gorgeous!!! Trust me.

Yeah $1,000 is definitely way too much. Thank you so much for the insight on the process too. It helps understand the cost factor a lot more.

Sorry Smiley sad I know that it's disappointing to find out. and I don't want to discourage you. You might be able to find something local to you who can frame it for cheaper, but I don't see it happening without something bad going wrong. I'm sure you will find something else nice to do with your dress Smiley smile
