Wedding dress sadness

Mikaela, on July 24, 2019 at 8:11 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 19
So I went to try a fitting for my wedding dress and liiterally walked into the shop and saw a girl wearing the same exact dress I picked! I was told when I bought the dress that if I bought the one in the store no one would have the same dress as me. Boy was I pissed and really upset when I saw that girl literally wearing my same dress. I know that obviously that vendor makes more than that one dress but I literally feel heartbroken right now. Has anyone else had this happen to them?

Why does it matter? Unless you’re getting married at the same venue on the same day, I don’t get why you’d care.

I wouldn't have cared in the slightest. However, if it matters to you, remember that she'll have totally different hair, makeup, shoes and accessories, and unless she's your identical twin she'll have different body proportions as well, so the dress won't look anywhere near the same on her as it will on you.

I understand wanting your dress to feel special, but the only way to not have anyone else in the same dress is to have one made custom. You’ll be making your dress your own with accessories, jewelry, your hair and make up look, etc. Just focus on how the dress made you feel, it literally doesn’t matter what anyone else wears to their wedding, focus on you.

I am sorry. I do not know why your vendor would tell you that unless it was specially made for you. You will look way different I’m your veil or jewelry and makeup

If you wanted a one of a kind dress, you should have paid for a custom gown. Unless you know this girl or are having lots of mutual guests, I don’t see the issue. I saw a girl on WW with the same dress as me last week. She looks beautiful in it and I couldn’t be happier with my choice.

Oh it'll still look so different on you though. My three roommates and I in college once tried on the same shirt and it looked so different on each of us. You'll have your own style with it Smiley smile

A million other people have the possibility of wearing the dress you have.
My best friend went to the same vendor as I did and actually tried my dress on. She eventually recognized it from the pictures (it wasn’t her dress anyway- she just tried a different style). I’d be upset if she ended up with the same dress as me, but that’s a complete stranger.

It's weird that they told you nobody else would be in that dress unless they were a custom dress maker or it was the very last of the dress if it was being discontinued.
I was actually really bummed to not see many people with my dress because I wanted to see it on real brides too, not just the model!

I also think it's strange the bridal store lied to you. As PPs said, custom designing is the only way to ensure a dress worn only by you. Please remember the dress does not make you - you make the dress unique!

Clearly they lied to you. There is no way a designer would ever just produce 1 singular dress, that is just a waste of money on their part. Like everyone else said, the only way you would really be the only one is a dress is if it was custom. I don’t really see why it matters since you most likely don’t know this girl from Adam 🤷🏼‍♀️

Meh, unless you are going to her wedding or you have a load of mutual friends...I wouldn’t care at all.

I get where you’re coming from. I almost didn’t buy my dress because it was a 2016 release and is the companies most popular dress. I kept thinking how many other people have this exact dress... and then I remembered, all of those people won’t be at my wedding. None of the people coming to my wedding will have been to a wedding where someone has worn that same dress. What matters is 1. Do you love that dress? That’s what I had to ask myself. I love my dress and if someone else loves it too then all the better.

It was weird of them to say you’d be the only one with that dress, but it literally doesn’t matter. This girl is a total stranger to you and nobody will ever know that you guys have the same dress. Hundreds of other people probably are wearing that dress too. If you are this upset about not being the only person in the world wearing a specific bridal gown, you should have done a fully custom design with a dressmaker and not gone shopping at a traditional store that stocks designer gowns.

Sorry to hear that. But honestly a girl could have seen that dress on pinterest, on the designer's website, or else where and could've asked the store to bring that in for them. I wouldn't be mad at all but I understand where you're coming from. I love seeing my dress on other brides to see what it actually looks like.

I'd be more angry the shop blatantly lied to you. Overall remember you'll have it tailored differently, and a different look for your wedding. It won't look the same at all once you're done.

I wouldn't worry too much about it. Even the it's the exact dress she isn't you - she doesn't have your hair color, looks, body shape, style. One dress can look entirely different on many people Smiley smile

The only way to have that is to have a custom dress made, which is super expensive! Maybe you're not aware, but there are only so many wedding dress designs out there. Not sure why they told you that at the shop, as anyone can come in after you and order the exact same dress. Literally the only way to have a dress nobody else has is to have it custom made.

Like PPs have said, unless another bride with that dress is getting married at the exact same place and time as you, nobody will even know that other brides have chosen the same dress as you. I think it's kind of cool, actually, when I see someone who chose the same dress as me. It's like I know exactly what they were feeling when they put that dress on, because I'm feeling it too!

I agree in the way that this would have disappointed me a little bit. I do also agree that it's not right of anyone to tell you that no one would have the same dress as you, because to say that to someone knowing the importance of the dress is just blatantly lying tbh. But the best thing I can think to say is to just keep in mind that on your wedding day you will definitely be the ONLY one in that dress, and it's gonna be a magical experience. I promise later on you won't even care about some random girl that just happened to fall in love with the same dress as you
