Wedding dress rental question

Susie, on October 7, 2017 at 1:25 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 11

I would like to rent a wedding dress because I can't bring myself to pay full price for a dress I'll wear once...

Anybody have experience with wedding dress rentals? I was wondering if anyone has tried Borrowing Magnolia?

The problem a lot of people seem to have is that renting dresses usually means you can't alter them in any way, so you have to find one that fits perfectly.

Secondhand dresses seem to be more popular.

Not sure this is the best idea esp if the dress doesn't fit you perfectly.

Like a PP said, check out secondhand shops and DB.

I've heard they cost just as much as buying a dress so there's no point.

I wouldn't rent a dress. You cannot guarantee the fit and as a short person I 100% know any gown irent would need to be altered/hemmed. Also you cannot guarantee the condition of your dress and anytime you rent you run the risk of not getting the design you truly want. The person who rents it before you may not return it on time or may damage it making it unavailable.

There are too many risks to take with a dress on such an important day that is so heavily documented by so many people.

Buy one on sale!! Davids Bridal has a $99 dollar sale sometimes! That's when I went looking for mine. I ended up buying one from the $499 sale instead but still!

Renting can cost more than finding a good sale at a shop. We looked into it, but to rent the dress with everything I wanted was 1.5 times the price of buying it with alterations.

I had looked in to renting a dress from a local store. However, I was surprised when I found out that renting one costs just slightly less than buying one, and in some cases, it could cost you more!

Check for sales. They should be having a bunch really soon. Also check out Craigslist. I saw a ton of dresses on there for piddly sums that were not even worn.

Thanks for the feedback! I didn't even think about not being able to alter the dress. Eeks.

Speaking of secondhand markets, has anyone purchased from Brides Against Breast Cancer? Thoughts on experience/quality of dresses?

I haven't tried BABC, but I did buy my dress from a consignment shop and I only paid $350 for it (and it's mine forever)! It ended up fitting perfectly, but I will probably alter it to put on a bustle. I got the same bridal experience as brides on TV, the dresses just weren't new, and I got to take mine home that day!
