Wedding Dress regret

Jacklyn, on July 25, 2024 at 12:55 AM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 13
Hi everyone! I wanted to make a discussion about my wedding dress regret in hopes of getting some support! I originally bought a dress for $2500 and changed my mind after the reactions I was getting from my parents. The store kindly let me exchange for another. In a rush to get this over with I switched for a cheaper dress at $1400 but the store refused to give me a refund, so I still have about $1100 left at the store to spend. I’m now not liking my new dress.

The alterations will definitely be upwards of $700+ for what I need done. I’m wondering that if I make some changes like altering the underlay to ivory and changing the neckline to a halter I’d like it better? Or if I should just buy a different dress with the $1100 I have left or buy from a different store? Should I try and sell this dress? Wedding Dress regret 1Wedding Dress regret 2

The dress looks really nice on you. The tint of the lining helps show the lace and should not need a different liner. Your dress should work either way. I hope you are getting support from your parents in what you select.

The dress looks beautiful on you!! I think switching to a darker lining would really elevate the dress and make the lace pop!

Thank you! I’m realizing I love the brightness of ivory and the underlay makes me feel like it’s less of a wedding dress and feels more like an evening gown! They are trying to be neutral but it’s very easy to tell when they’re not a fan.

The picture of the dress on the front is when we slipped an ivory lining underneath! It already has a mauve/mocha liner underneath but I was thinking of changing the lining to that ivory! I’m realizing I’m a fan of the brightness of a dress and feel this lining makes it more of an evening gown Smiley sad

I love the shape of the dress on you! I also really like it with the ivory lining underneath. I think that's a great solution if you don't feel great with the other lining.

Thank you! I just feel like I’m really trying to change the dress into something else and at this point I should just try and sell it and find something cheaper that I actually love!

The dress looks gorgeous and suits you really well as it is though I 100% agree with the ivory lining so it the dress doesn’t look “dim” but still have that contrast in color. Either way you gotta go with what you love so that you can fondly look back on these memories with no regrets. Maybe, if the shop allows it, you can try other dresses to give you an idea of what kind of styles you like and give ideas of the alterations you can do with this one? And then if you find that what you prefer really deviates from this dress, then maybe it’s a sign to get something else!

This dress is beautiful. That being said, you should have never switched the dress that you loved just because of someone else's opinion. I would ask the store if you can return the 2nd choice and get your first choice back! Your wedding is about you and what YOU want. You're the one wearing the dress, no one else. Get what you like and what makes you happy.

Thank you. Idk what to do anymore tbh. I doubt they will let me switch back at this point since I’ve had the dress at home for a couple of months now and it’s off the rack. I look back at the first dress and I would have made changes to it too! This was the first dress and all I needed was to get it shortened! Very different vibes.Wedding Dress regret 3

I’m so conflicted on what to do now! I’m down $1400 from this dress and still have $1000 in store credit. Truly I have no idea what to do. I don’t love this dress and inquired about alterations from a seamstress and they said it would be at least $700-850

Can you use that credit for in-house alterations? This price is typical for alterations actually and a pretty good deal to change the lining of a dress that is not custom-made.

I'm just going to say the least said perspective: it's just a dress. Capitalism and TV shows (I watched them, too) inflate the importance of the dress like it's the only decision a bride makes on the most important day of her life. But, that's not true. You have many wonderful days ahead of you. Choose a dress that you can make your own, and don't forget you will add accessories (jewelry, shoes, veil). Your commitment, your partner, and your guests make the wedding day special, not just your attire.

I think you look lovely in both, but if your wedding is in August weather, I personally would not suggest the first due to long sleeves. If your sadness is more about peer pressure and validation, make the decision to be more intentional with your wedding moving on. Make decisions best for you and your person, and put everyone else on an information diet and say less. Best wishes.

By the way, others have reported on WW that the market for reselling unaltered wedding dresses is very slow.
