Wedding Dress Regret

Valerie, on July 18, 2015 at 1:49 AM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 12

I know this is probably nothing unusual, but I am having wedding dress anxiety. My wedding is October 25th and I no longer love the wedding dress I bought.

It is champagne and a little bit darker than I was anticipating when I bought it, but I paid so much for it, I don't know if it's worth it to purchase another one.

Here is the dress http://www.morilee.com/images/Picture/1908/bg_img01.jpg

What is everyones advice on this?

I think it's beautiful! It's very common to get dress regret. There are thousands of beautiful dresses out there and you can only pick one (or two) for the wedding. Try it on with your accessories. Try to remember why you fell in love with it in the first place.

I had dress regret too. I tried to sell it with the tags on and unaltered. I even lowered the price way down to $200. No one wanted it. I ended up donating it to Brides Against Breast Cancer. Your dress is gorgeous, but know that new or not, there's a chance it might be hard to sell if you do change your mind.

I know this doesn't help much, but your dress is absolutely beautiful! Actually, this exact comment was super frustrating to me when I was hating my dress too. (I actually exchanged my original one for a new, and entirely different dress today!)

Now for something that may help...it looks like the room you're in is very dark. Have you tried taking any photos outside in brighter, natural light? I bought my dress at David's Bridal and their showroom has terrible lighting. Looking at pictures that were not reflective of how pretty I felt my dress was in-person definitely added to my regret. Maybe a nice, bright photo of you in the dress will make you feel better? If not, do you have any options to exchange? I realize you're on a tighter timeline being 3 months out.

Umm, Valerie? Are you seeing what I'm seeing? I loved the dress on the model, and I love the dress on you! It is stunning. It's unique. It's not what I would expect to see, but when I saw it, I'd say, "Wow. Amazing gown". No offense to other brides, and this probably has something to do with the sheer volume of gowns I see on a monthly basis, but Valerie's dress would instantly catch my eye and stick in my memory. It isn't white, strapless, and it doesn't feature a sweetheart neckline paired with a ball gown skirt, a mermaid skirt, or a trumpet skirt. I'm partial to light colored gowns -- especially gold, champagne, or blush pink.

Are you wearing a veil with the gown? A veil might be the finishing touch. You can order something very inexpensive from China and dye it in a mixture of tea and hot water (take it out of the water when it reaches the color you like). My daughter wore a champagne colored Maggie Sottero wedding gown that was draped in hanging crystals on a diagonal pattern down the front of the gown, and with the tea dyed veil, everyone knew, without a doubt, that she was the bride. Think of yourself carrying a bouquet. Think of yourself flanked by BMs who are wearing dresses that complement your gown. Think of your groom in a dark tux with a champagne vest and bow tie/tie. You will look like the bride. You picked this gown for a reason, and I, for one, would be dying to wear it.

You can't go wrong either way. Put it back on and try wearing it differently than before. Like add or take away accessories. That's what I did when I was having dress regret and ended up falling in love all over again. The only change I really made was subtracting the hoop skirt!

I'm gonna chime in like everyone else to say you look amazing in this dress! I agree that trying it on again, with accessories and maybe even going all out with hair and makeup and a veil will help you see the vision of yourself on your wedding day. If you're still feeling regret after all of that, then maybe that's a different story but I sure hope that won't be the case.

I went through this, I did buy a second dress off the rack. I did sell my first one but did lose money. My first dress was satin and I really wanted lace from the beginning but without some weight loss the lace looked bad. I couldn't be happier with my new dress.

Your dress is very pretty but you need to do what makes you happy.

    I think it's absolutely gorgeous.

I like the color. I chose to go with a darker color because i didn't want to be the same as everyone else.

For what it's worth, you look amazing in that dress. It is a BEAUTIFUL gown. I think once you get outside, it will look a bit lighter with natural lighting. Honestly, if it were me, I'd rock that dress!! Also, if you change your avatar to a picture rather than the rings, you may get more responses. The default double rings is associated with trolls, and some may not take the time to read your post. Welcome to WW, Valerie!
