Wedding Dress problems

Mrs. McCheese, on October 25, 2010 at 10:28 AM Posted in Planning 0 10

I just wanted to share my story with everyone. I haven't had much trouble with my wedding planning save for not being able to communicate with my wedding planner. On Saturday my parents came over to see the dress since it's been "altered" and to help me with accessories. I wasn't terribly pleased with the alterations but didn't realize how bad they were due to poor lighting and no way to see the back of the dress. My dress no longer fits me. It was orginally two sizes too big now it's too small to zip, to move, to sit. I will have to sell my dream dress and find one at DB and hope they get it altered correctly with the week I have left before I leave. I am disappointed and very upset that my parents are out the money for my dream dress. My advice to everyone is make sure you know the alteration person. Make sure she is completely aware of what needs to be done and make sure she measures you. If anyone is interested in purchasing my dress, it'll fit a street 16 or smaller

Awe...I am really sorry. Is there any way that it can be taken back out to fit you? Maybe a different seamstress can help. How much too small is it? I hope you get it all figured out. Again I am so sorry that this happened to you.

I would have to take it back to the lady that screwed it up. She isn't open on Mondays. She claimed to have let it out before but not enough. My parents are concerned she cut the seams so there isn't enough allowance to let it back out. She took it in five inches everywhere when it only needed 5 around the waist and 2 at the bust. It fits horribly now. It's gaping at the underarm areas. I can't wear my bra with it. Being a big busted girl I need a bra. No one else will fix it because of legal reasons. I'm going to DB at lunch to have them measure me and I'll order one online and next day it or purchase one I found in their store yesterday. It barely zips and apparently if I sit the zipper/seam will bust. I have not gained any weight which is what she claimed after she had taken it in. The second time she claimed she fixed it. I couldn't see the back to see how bad it was. I'm just frustrated and stressed. My parents have at least helped me make the decision for what to do next

FS has been great and told me to just buy a new one at DBs. It's just not that easy though since I'm two completely different sizes on top and bottom. Anyway mostly this post is just to serve as a warning to other brides.

I'm so sorry to hear about this. Would you be able to add a corsett to the dress to fix the problem?

Wow, I'm really sorry! I just saw Andrene's comment and I was thinking if you get another dress at DB, I would try to get one with a corset so that you can adjust it to fit your bust and waist since you are 2 different sizes. Good luck, my fingers are crossed!

Lovely- She let me walk out of the shop with it barely fitting. She apparently doesn't seem to think there's a problem with it. I guess she has a different opinion on how a dress should fit. I found out today she doesn't do wedding dresses which she claimed to do. I found this out from the other alteration lady that won't/can't fix it because of legal reasons. The lady I paid to do it has altered other formal dresses for me no problem. I'm confused as to how she cut 5 inches off the bust when you could clearly see it didn't need that much taken in.

@Andrene- unfortunately no it's got a ton of beading and detail all along the dress that a corset would take away from. Not to mention the bustle is a over bustle which hooks onto one of the buttons that run down the back of the dress.

Nov Bride '10 - I wish you lived in my area - I'd fix it for you - "legal reasons" ? that's a bunch of @#%$.

Altering bridal is such a specialized area - I'm sorry this happened to you.

Why not try to return it? However, many online stores have different return requirements, maybe you can try it.

Last month . because my budget is limited, so I decided to buy it online, I used to buy in missgowns. but I do not like the style, so I return it. i have in searched of the wedding dress for a long time, finally I found a beautiful wedding dress in the store named evdressau.I was really happy.
