Wedding dress preservation

Jennifer, on September 6, 2017 at 11:58 AM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 11

Any suggestions on who is the best & cheapest to get my wedding dress preserved & cleaned? I've seen on here how some of you have had horror stories with David's bridal. It makes me nervous to let them do it.

The kit from David's is through a contractor - I mailed my dress to them, they cleaned and preserved it, and sent it back within just a couple weeks - I had no problems at all. They even got strawberry pie stains out of it

How much did it cost? I'm afraid it'll be super expensive

I've never heard anything about David's preservation being bad but if you go cheap you will likely end up much worse off. You can always take it to a good dry cleaner and preserve it yourself https://www.everafterguide.net/wedding-dress-preservation.html

I am not planning on saving my dress. We plan to do a 'trash the dress' photo shoot (on the beach) the day after the wedding. I will save a small piece and maybe make something from it (like picture from Pinterest) or similar. I will enjoy the amazing pictures and a small keepsake more than a dress in a box, but that is just me. Best wishes for your quest!

I paid $99 for the kit from David's - it looks fantastic (the left side of the dress (when I was wearing it) had the strawberry pie - it was PINK in a big streak down the side when I packed it up)

What are you preserving your dress for? Sell it or donate it.

David's boxes go on sale every so often for $99. That's what I got mine for, and both mine and my best friend's dresses came back perfectly with no issues.

It sounds like maybe David's just had a rough few months with the preservation stuff. Maybe I'll give them a try.

I took mine to a local dry cleaner who does cleaning and preservation. They removed the beading prior to cleaning and reattached it afterwards so the beads didn't get destroyed. The total cost was $200.
