Wedding Dress: Pick Up Fee????

Crystal, on June 24, 2022 at 3:40 AM Posted in Wedding Attire 1 19
So my bridal salon called today and advised that my dress was ready for pick up! This made me super excited because my dress wasn’t supposed to be ready until the end of July/first week of August. So I was advised to come pick up the dress and I’d be able to try it on and see if any alterations were needed by scheduling an “Accessories Appointment”.

I didn’t care for purchasing any accessories but figured this was their normal process when picking up a dress. So I go online to book the appointment only to find out I had to pay a fee. While the fee was only $10, if rubbed me the wrong way because I’ve already spent thousands of dollars on my dress and now I have to pay to try it on/pick it up?! How ridiculous is that?! Idk but I’m really disappointed. My fiancé convinced me to just pay the fee and try on accessories to just get an idea of what I want. But honestly, if gives me “money hungry” vibes. I understand some salons charging a fee for the initial appointment, but having to pay after you’ve already purchased a gown? Eh…..

I’m so glad your dress came in early!! I have been scouring the web trying to find photos of it for you, but I swear none exist!
That being said, I’m with you on the fee. Sure, it’s a very nominal fee. But, it’s the point of the matter. It feels as though they are trying to squeeze every penny out of you they can; very low rent.

Glad you’re getting it early! I didn’t know this either. I don’t understand why you have to pay to pick it up. Geesh.

Heyyy CeCe! I was just thinking how that timing worked out! I also thought it was odd because when I called their NY office (to see if they could send me a pic of the back of the dress) I asked if there were any updates on when my dress would arrive and they told me no, and that the LA office would call me when it was ready to ship within the next 2-3 weeks. So when they called yesterday I thought it was for an update.

But yeah! I didn’t want to book the appointment and I wanted to just call and ask if I could just come in and try on my dress without doing an accessory appointment but I didn’t want to lose the appointment time and I figured to just go with it and get the experience.

Yeah that call came in right on time! I’m not happy about having to pay for an appointment that I don’t want but like my fiancé said, I could just go for the experience and to maybe get an idea of the overall look I like and I can buy accessories elsewhere.

I would call them and say you would just like to pick up the dress and are not interested in the accessories appointment.

That’s what I wanted to do, but they were already. Loses and I didn’t want to lose the available appointment time because I still want to try on my dress and make sure it’s right! I’ll still call and let them know

The countless fees are a scam. There has to be somewhere you can report that to. Maybe the consumer reports team at your local news stations.

Honestly pick up the dress (hopefully free) and then go elsewhere for accessories. What the salon will charge is outrageous prices for a veil and jewelry compared to what is easily 1/10 the price and better quality available on Etsy.

Is this charge for steaming? That's a bit nickle and dime.

Can you call and tell them you only want to pick up the dress and ask if they happen to get a cancellation that you take so you don’t have to wait too long for the next opening? I know you said you don’t want to cancel the Accessories appointment so you still have a spot, but that’s ridiculous of them to charge a fee for booking that….

Ask them to refund it. If they won't, report them to the BBB. That fee should have been clear before you bought the dress.
