So I’ve already bought my dress and I love it! It came in not too long ago and I went to try it on immediately of course. When I showed my future mother in law these pictures all she said was, “why do you look pregnant in it? It looks like you have a belly sticking out” then she proceeded to zoom in on my stomach area in the picture. I just stared at her with my mouth open. I didn’t even know what to say. Then she said “well, it’s a nice dress, I’m just being honest”. Do I really look bad in it? Should I wear spandex under it? Or is she just being mean? We usually get a long well so I don’t know why she would deliberately be mean. The only issue with spanx is the back is very low. Any suggestions if I go that route? She just has me feeling really bad about myself now and I’m very upset. My fiancé said she didn’t do it to be mean and she probably thought she was “helping” I don’t see how that’s helping though, because now I feel like not eating until November.

I think you look beautiful in your dress and don't need any type of spanx. I agree with FH that she probably wasn't trying to be mean. My mom is very unfiltered with her opinions and always says things that make me feel self conscious. She's not doing it to be mean, she just lacks a certain gentle mentality when it comes to talking about people's bodies. Do your best to ignore her remark, because you are rocking that dress!!

Oh no I’m so sorry! Some people’s mouths work faster than their brain like others said it’s just the lighting and you look gorgeous! Beautiful dress!! So sorry, I can see how this would stress you out but you look great!

Wow! That dress is stunning! Love all the detail, the neckline, the low back, the train!!! I think it looks great! I agree that you should see if it can get taken in a bit, maybe altering it a little would help you feel better about it. Sometimes adjusting the shoulders or hips or something helps smooth out other “kinks” in the dress. But no, you do not look pregnant. I don’t know why your MIL would rip the rug from underneath you like that - Uncalled for!

Pregnant?! 😂 You look the farthest thing from being pregnant. That was totally rude of her to say that! Your dress is stunning and you look amazing in it. Discard her negative comment. This is your day, the only opinions that matter are yours and your fiancé’s. As for the spanx, they have ones that dip low in the back.

That is a beautiful dress, if you love it that’s all that matters. It’s all about what you and your hubby want. No one else!

BUT it does suck when people say negative things after you’ve already bought it 😫

The dress needs to be taken in is all! I don’t know if you’ve had any fittings yet but a good seamstress will make that dress fit you perfectly! It’s a beautiful dress on you!

I immediately noticed it was the lighting in the photo that’s causing it to look that way. The stomach area has a shadow. You look great in it and I can’t believe you fmil would say something like that. That’s extremely rude in my opinion. I’m sure it will look even more amazing on you once you do the alterations

OP, you look gorgeous. I'm not just saying that. I don't see a tummy at all. We are our own worst critics, and it doesn't help when someone calls out something that we might be insecure about. But you really shouldn't be, the dress looks great on you.
