wedding dress - mermaid undergarment/shapewear

Olivia, on September 28, 2014 at 1:52 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 14

Hi ladies, I finally said yes to the dress yesterday! I'm excited I found my dress after trying on about 50 dresses!! I was looking for something very specific so I'm glad to have found my dress. My dress is a beautiful satin mermaid gown with crystals on the bodice and very delicate lace on the bottom (it's not a lot, since I'm not a huge fan of lace on wedding gowns...) so now I am looking for some shapewear. I need something that smooths me out very well since this is a satin material and it isn't very forgiving. can any of you ladies recommend a brand and product? I'm thinking about a tummy and hip control type of bodysuit...if you need pics to see me in the dress to make a recommendation please let me know Smiley smile

I live in Canada so I'm hoping you brides to be can help me!

Spanx. Hands down, not even an option haha. So worth the investment and you can use them under lots of things in the future too. I'm not sure how low the back of your dress goes, but make sure it doesn't accidentally peek out the top Smiley smile

Thanks for the suggestion!! I was definitely thinking spanx as an option but heard some mixed reviews... some people say they don't stay up which would be a problem obviously but I can definitely try them.... do you have a suggestion on what spanx product to try? I have a strapless sweetheart neckline. so the dress is not super low!

One thing my bridal consultant brought up is make sure you can still use the bathroom whatever you go with. She suggested a form fitting slip as opposed to short-like bottoms.

Martha Stewart Weddings.com has an excellent area on their site for this under "Style" I was looking at it this morning! I am considering a dress (fit and flare Mikaela Style #1812) that sounds similar to your dress. It is a matte satin form fitting, everything looks great except I have a little pooch in the tummy - nothing horrible but if there is something to improve the look I am on it. On this site there was a spanx type undergarment (I think this was under "Bridal Style/Undergarments" on the site) and this piece looked awesome, I would check it out.

I have never had that problem before and I've been wearing Spanx since high school proms haha. You really just need to find the right size for you and I promise you they won't move an inch. They should be tight and pretty difficult to get into, which sounds wrong but thats what works I guess. I have multiple styles and pairs. If the back of your dress doesn't dip much and you want serious tummy control I would try the "in power line" style. It hits just under your bust line. If you don't want them that high I would try the "trust your thinstincts". And if all else fails and both of those are too high for your liking try "skinny britches" the basically hit at your natural waistline and will still suck lower tummy in, just doesn't do as much higher up Smiley smile

Private user, I agree with that. But I love having the shorts because chafing sucks! And unless you have serious thigh gap (not me!) then you're basically asking for it haha

I have a pair of the Spanx In-Power Line, and I have worn them on several occasions (including engagement pictures)...let me tell you, they did NOT budge. Yes, it will be a little difficult to pee in them while in your wedding dress, but it should be a serious option.

SPANX/ASSETS - go down one or even two sizes from what the size guide says you'd normally wear, and if you can stand it, double-up and wear two - that's what it seems celebs do in those super-form fitting dresses. You'll be shocked... but make sure you can comfortably sit down, if you double up!

The long-line shapewear usually has a 'split crotch', which means that when you use the toilet, you don't have to pull the bodysuit down. No snaps or clips - it's two pieces of fabric that pull apart strategically, kindof like a camera shutter. Very clever, and super-simple. (It's either Spanx or Assets, the Spanx cheaper line for target - one of them has the split crotch, and it's awesome!)

The Spanx In-Power Line has the split too, but I think it is too small! I am actually planning on cutting the slit to be a little bigger for when I wear them at my wedding. =)

I bought one from soma. I have a mermaid dress too. I had already bought a tummy control one from dillards but it didnt have the thigh control so I had to buy a whole new one that has both. The ones from soma are soooo comfy and not strangling like most gerdals are.

Thank u all you are so kind for giving me great advice!! I hope the Assets collection is available at the target stores in Canada. I know that The Bay also carries a range of shapewear. I'm hoping not to spend a fortune on shapewear to look flawless in my dress!

I'm from canada too Smiley smile

I recently discovered that bbasiclingerie carries Janira shapewear which is my favorite collection. Their shapewear is a bit more pricier but so worth it.

I love the silueta lace which is a new style but does the same thing as the regular silueta.

    Happy shopping
