Wedding Dress Doesn't Fit!

Maria , on April 4, 2018 at 2:29 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 10

I bought my wedding dress in August of 2017. My dress was made and received in late October. When I tried on the dress it fit well except in the bust and straps. Both needed to be taken in some. Things have been VERY stressful these last few months. Obviously, I've notice my weight gain of 20+lbs.

I tried on my dress last week and the gown does not fit. It is a corset back. There is a gap where the panel isn't wide enough and I'm also needing a longer corset string added.

While I can make improvements on my weight since I have until August I am VERY worried. I want my dress to fit me, not me to fit my dress. If that makes sense. With everything going on I do NOT want to bank on losing at the weight. I'm going this coming Saturday for an alteration appointment.

Has anyone ever had an extra panel added to a corset dress? How much does it cost? Was it obvious or noticeable?

I truly love my dress and can't wait to be married to FH but this has given me a grim outlook.

I've heard that this can be done. I gained about 6-8 pounds from the time I bought my dress to the time it came in. The sample that I tried on was too big on me, so it fit like a trumpet/fit and flare. Apparently, it is supposed to fit like a mermaid, so it hugs around the hips/thighs. That just so happens to be the largest part of my body. Had I known that, I probably wouldn't have bought the dress.

I bought the Jillian Michael's Bodyshred DVDs on Amazon and definitely lost inches on my entire body. (Weight is about the same because I gained muscle). The first place where I lost mass was around my ribcage and torso. Look into some HIIT / circuit training workouts. You'll be in shape in no time!

IM not a seamstress but I don’t see why they wouldn’t be able to add a bigger panel in the back. You’d need to make sure you have enough ribbon to thread but I think it can be done and will look nice!

This is very common. A larger panel can be added with limited issues.

Whew! UPDATE! Had my appointment with the seamstress Saturday. Turns out my mother who had laced my corset in the first picture didn't do it quite right. Our wonderful seamstress now just has to tighten the straps, move the panel over a little but doesn't need to add a new one (thank goodness) and put a bustle on the dress. So much stress taken off! Thank you all for the comments and support.

OMG, make sure someone knows how to do it correctly the day of. I cant believe just doing it properly makes such a big difference.

I have the same problem and they are letting it out 2 inches and adding a bigger panel.

Whew! Make sure your semestress shows your mother how to properly tie the corest for your wedding day!! I know I plan on taking my mom & my MOH with me for my final fitting that way they both can get me in my dress and bustle it if need be.

Wait- you have until August?! I would wait until June to start alterations. Your body can change so much. Instead of fighting with the dress, and paying for alteration after alteration, wait until 6-8 weeks before the wedding.
