Wedding Dress Bustle?!

Laine, on February 28, 2017 at 7:32 AM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 11

I found my dress .. but I don't know about the bustle. What exactly is it? The David's Bridal employee stated that they could pin it up in the back, but is my dress supposed to stay up like that all evening or is it just for the dance? I love my dress and the length of the train so I don't really want to pin everything up but I don't want to trip over my dress either during our first dance nor walking down the aisle! Help!

Usually, you'll leave the dress down for the ceremony and pictures. You'll have it bustled during the reception, for exactly the reasons you mentioned: leaving it down opens the probability that you (or someone else) will step on or trip over the train, and it gets in the way when dancing.

That said, there are many brides who do not bustle their dress, and seem to have no problem with it. I bustled mine, and I'm glad I did.

ETA: A bustle is formed from pinning or tying up the back of the wedding dress, to accommodate the excess length and fabric and make it easier to move around. In bygone eras, it was a common component of any dress and usually built into them.

It's for the reception, imagine walking around your reception, visiting people and people walking, stepping or tripping over your train.

I think types of bustles vary from dress to dress but mine will basically button the bottom of the train onto the end of the zipper seam on my dress.

You don't bustle your dress for walking down the aisle. you're walking in a straight line with no one else around you to step on it.

Your seamstress will talk about how to bustle your dress, and will definitely show someone in your bridal party how to do it! It's nearly impossible to do yourself, so don't worry about that! Some of them are very simple, others are very complicated; your seamstress will go over all of it with you!

It will have buttons or hooks of some sort and the bridal attendant at your venue should be trained in how to handle it for you

They teach you or you BM's how to do it. Davids bridal is adding colored ribbons (on the underside) of mine and you just match the ribbons and tie. It's easy.

Make sure you have someone with you when they teach you how to bustle. I was in a wedding where the bride had a meltdown and did not enjoy must of her reception crying over the train not being bustled the correct way because people did not remember how to.

Go the easy road and ask the seamstress to make it NOT complicated.

Most people do not bustle for first dance, since it will be only you two on the dance floor and the pictures will be taken focused on you and your clothing.

You will need it afterwards, no one wants to be tripped on all night and you don't want to ruin your dress Smiley smile

I was same way. Didn't want to bustle mine up because I didn't want to change the look of my dress but I don't want everyone stepping or tripping on my dress. But a seamstress from DB came put pinned it up to show me what it would look like . I will be having 10 snaps added 5 in and 5 out. Here's what it will look like. Ceremony my train will be out reception my MOH will snap it up

I just had my first alterations appointment last weekend and decided on this bustle.. it's just tucked underneath and as someone else mentioned, there's different colored ties and buttons so you know which goes where.
