Wedding Dress Blues

Morgan, on May 10, 2024 at 2:26 AM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 5
When I tried on the sample size dress at the store, it was perfect. I mean even looking back at the pictures, the dress fit beautifully. I remember the feeling. Everything. I should’ve bought the sample size, but I assumed it was more common to get your own. When I got the dress (sizes bigger than the sample), it was huge on me. The dress is supposed to be tight and fit like a glove. However, the one they ordered was HUGE. I didn’t say anything cause I thought it was normal for it to be huge before alterations. Then, when I went to the alterer, I don’t think she understood I wanted it super tight. + she charged me hundreds of dollars. It still doesn’t fit like the sample, and I’m regretting getting this dress since it doesn’t fit me right… + I may as well as also bought the sample for the price I paid/pay for alterations. I fell in love with the sample but the dress itself doesn’t fit & I’m worried it won’t fit for the wedding… what should I do?

I'm so confused why you ordered a gown that was a lot larger than the sample, if the sample size fit you well?

Did the store measure you? Did they show you the size chart? Did you discuss what size to order before you placed the order?

They measured me & told me the size I ordered was what they recommend. The sample was apparently stretched out, so they recommended I got a size that worked for me. I honestly didn’t think ab getting the sample cause I thought the dress I would get would be similar enough to the sample.

What are the nice aspects of the dress? (i'm assuming the dress is basically tailored okay.) Try to keep the memories on the blessing of marriage rather than a missed opportunity with getting the sample dress. People will remember who you are more than whether you missed a deal on the dress.

Contact the store manager and ask for a refund and the dress purchased in the correct size that fits you. Even if that means taking the sample home. If the manager doesn’t comply, then look elsewhere because you don’t want to support bad business practices.

There was a story very similar to this on TikTok not long ago where a bride ordered a high end dress and the shop did the exact same thing, and refused to refund the dress or otherwise rectify the situation, claiming that they had no part in ordering the wrong size, etc. Even when the owner got involved, they still blamed her and the bride got it fixed elsewhere out of her own pocket with no refund or other remedies.

I hope the store did not recommend 2 sizes higher than the sample dress. I could see how the store would push for a larger size since they can assume any dress will be tailored and it is safer for them if the dress it too large rather than too small. It does seem like Michelle raises some issues about the store's practices. Those may be reasons to raise the issue with them or in a review of the boutique.
