Wedding Dress Anxiety!!!

Heidi, on February 4, 2021 at 2:11 AM Posted in Wedding Attire 1 18
Hi so I am a plus sized girl and just ordered my wedding dress. Of course it’s a little big so it needs alterations. My biggest fear is that after they alter it I will gain more weight and now fit into my dress on my big day! I’m getting married October 24, 2021 and I know I have many months to worry since the dress comes in May and I’m not sure when alliteration will start but I have the biggest fear I won’t fit into it once it’s altered. Did anyone else feel this way? I felt sooo beautiful with the sample dress even if it was a little too big but I just don’t want my day to be ruined because of my weight Smiley sad don’t mind my face I was sobbing because of how beautiful I felt and I knew this was the dream for me.

Relax! Breath girl! Your dress is gorgeous! I bought my dress last June & did my 1st rounds of alterations 2 weeks ago (wedding is 4/3/21). Generally they want to see you 3 times. I have my 2nd appointment on 2/19 & my last on 3/6. I’ll pick it up on 3/29.

You won't start your alterations until about 8 weeks before the wedding, so I'm sure you'll be fine. Also remember, seamstress usually can take a dress both down & up 2 sizes.

Beautiful dress. I can totally relate, I'm also plus, a size 24, I ordered my dress back in August and just picked it up on Jan 29th. Its very snug and form fitting and I had gained some weight so I was a basket case worrying that it wouldnt fit. It was fine and I was still in love with it. My alterations appointment isnt until June so I'm trying to focus on not gaining any more. You will be good, alterations is closer to the wedding and they will be able to make that dress fit you perfectly whether its down or up a size.

Weight is within OUR control unless one has some sort of rare medical condition. It's a calories in calories out process. I recommend you not eat more than **** calories each day if you want to maintain your weight until the wedding.

I had worse case scenario. My wedding was canceled 3 weeks before (April 2020) and it was in final fittings with the seamstress when the world shutdown. My dress was shipped to me once she was finished and my wedding got bumped a year (April 2021). I gained 15 lbs in quarantine and my dress no longer fits. Luckily, she is able to take out what she took in and it will still fit it. So....I def would NOT worry about it. Been there done that and all was fine!

First of all, you look gorgeous in this dress! Trust me if I didn’t like it I just wouldn’t comment haha. As far as weight gaining goes, have you thought about setting any sort of plans to follow? What is your current level of activity like? Even by just incorporating 20 minutes of cardio a day you should be able to maintain your weight. Are you a stress eater?

Try not to stress! You will be just fine. I started alterations on my dress about 2 months before my wedding. My seamstress did a "2 week check-in" to make sure everything still fit like it was supposed to. I suggest you do this. When you go in for your final fitting (around the 2 week mark) your seamstress will be able to fix anything that is needed.

Beautiful dress by the way! Looks great on you.

I am an extreme stress eater. The thing is, I’ve been stress eating and my weight has stayed the same, everyone is telling me to work on losing it but I loved the way it looked I don’t want to change that image. But I’m basically sedentary due to working from home and working full shifts to pay for everything. I want to try to exercise but like I spend all my time sitting I just want to relax from that.

That sucks. I’m sorry you’re going through this. Maybe you could try chewing on sugar-free mint gum, crunching on ice chips, and drinking herbal tea. Stress eating is very similar to other oral fixations and it’s definitely not something that can be cured overnight and definitely not easy stop.
I understand that your goal is not to lose weight, but to maintain, so maybe even for 20 minutes after work every day you can YouTube some meditation videos that incorporate yoga and stretch. It’s very mild exercise but more than likely give you some more of an activity that I’m guessing you’re doing right now. Ive been working from home to so I understand how you feel when you say you feel you’re just stuck inside all day. You can even light some candles and just do some very relaxing stretches. Believe it or not even 20 minutes a day will definitely keep you where you’re at right now. Hope this helps and good luck!
