Wedding Dress Alterations

Olivia, on July 24, 2024 at 11:38 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 9
Hey guys! I just picked my wedding dress up from being altered. I brought it to a professional seamstress that does wedding gowns, who took it down 2 sizes and shortened it for me. I think it looks beautiful! Except for the belly area. When I tried the dress on at the store and had it clipped, it looked totally different. I feel like the bottom of the boning (stomach area) is super noticeable. The dress has a little bit of looseness there, which she says I have to have in order to sit down comfortably. She said she didn’t even notice until I told her, but to take it home and look at it again, and she would fix it if she needs to. What do you guys think, is it noticeable? Or fixable? The pictures are of when I tried it on buying it, then after I picked it up from alterations. Thank you for your help!

To me, it looks like it is too big in the waist area. Do you have extra room there?

The boning looks too long to me too. I would expect it to stop at your waist.

Yes, I do have extra room there. The seamstress said that I had to have extra room there to sit down comfortably, but I would be okay with being a little uncomfortable and having it tighter!

The line is actually the end of the boning. Do you think the boning could be shortened?

I would think it could be shortened. The bigger issue to me is the waistline looks too big. If you feel comfortable going back, I would go back. Otherwise, I would consult with another seamstress.

It would help if you got another seamstress to point out the problem or the fix to it. If you tried it on before taking it home, the seamstress should have seen something a bit off.

I talked to her about how I felt and sent her a picture, and she said she is happy to take it in more and will try to shorten the boning so it hits above my stomach. Hopefully once it is tighter it will look better! Thank you for your help!

Yes I think it is noticeable. There is a noticeable thickness difference from the top half and the bottom! I hope she gets it fixed up!
