Hey Ladies, I've been gone for a year or so, busy with life, graduating, starting a job, and moving!!

I just went to my bridal alteration consult, and the lady is charging me $890!!

Back darts: $95

Bust darts: $195

Zipper: $150

Hem 5 layers: $295

Bustle (3 point): $175

Also cleaning, stain removal (small stain on the front of the dress from storing it for 2 years), pressing, storage, and 3-5 fittings are all included....

Is this a good price or am I about to get ripped off?

Its by a lady in the Woodlands, TX at Sew it Seams, her ratings have been overall pretty good - but a few state she can be a drama queen. I'm just wondering if this a reasonable price or not.

Thanks for your help!! I've missed you ladies!!

Love the dresss, but that's a lot of money. I think you should get a second opinion.

    Welcome back!

Wow, that is high. I would look elsewhere.

We took Cate's dress to a highly recommended seamstress. She is new & has only been in business for 3 yrs. What brought us here was the rec from the friend(who is picky) & the fact that the owner designs/sews her own label wedding gowns &BM/prom dress.

Cate's total cost of alterations is: $240

    1. She is having a 1/2 inch taken in on each side of her bodice.

    2. She is having a backless bra and cups sewn into her dress.

    3. The lace is being brought up beneath the ribbon to hem it. The tulle will be cut and the bottom layer of satin will be hemmed about an inch.

    4. She has a 5 point under bustle.

We thought it was a great bargain! Her storefront lacked ambiance, but we could have cared less about that.

1st pic....shows her dress without anything done to it

2nd pic shows the dress with the bra and pads put into it and the sides tacked.

3rd pic shows the under bustle.

Yeah, I am in Pennsylvania where everything I think is alot cheaper, but that still seams (little pun there - sorry could not help it) high. I would try to find someone else - like someone else mentioned; you could get another dress for that plus maybe a few hundred more. Good luck!

To me, that seems absolutely like you're getting ripped off in a major way.

I think that is way high. Maybe I am lucky, but my alterations only cost me $90 which included letting the dress out in the hips, taking in the waist, sewing in bra cups, pressing the dress, and a 10 point bustle. I would get other opinions.

Well your alterations cost $250 more than my dress did. So I guess it depends on the kind of budget you have. But alterations are expensive, I bought high high shoes cause they wanted like $200 to shorten all the layers of my dress. And lost 5 lbs to save the 75$ taking in charge

I'm getting my dress taken in and bustled all for $150. I know your dress is silk so it should be more but that price seems extremely high! I'd get other opinions.

No no no! That is way too much. It sounds like you do need a lot of work done but it shouldnt cost you the same amount as a dress would! Ask around. Where did you buy the dress? They should have someone available and you may be able to get a deal with them- most seamstresses at boutiques' prices are negotiable.

Thank you so much ladies, I'm calling a few other seamstresses that the place I bought my dress recommended to me. Should be setting up appointments with them in the coming weeks for consults. I thought for a minute I was going crazy and that everyone paid so much for alterations, but at least now I know the truth!!

HI HAYLEY!!! I MISSED YOU WOMAN!! I see you are still here giving all these beautiful brides your priceless advice!!
