Wedding Dress Alterations!?

She & He, on June 29, 2017 at 11:46 AM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 14

How long did it take for your dress to get altered? How many fittings did you have?

Received a new update that my dress probably wont be here until August. Is 4-5 weeks long enough for alterations without having a rush charge?

This makes me so anxious. smh

My wedding is August 5th and I just had my first appointment this week. You should be fine as long as you make your alterations appointment as soon as you get it

Congrats MrsVoegs17! 2 weeks is a quick turnaround. I assume alterations took 6-8 weeks. Hopefully mine will be just as fast!

My wedding is in November. My seamstress told me to make my first appointment for August but even that she said was a touch early. I am having some pretty dramatic changes made though so I thought it made sense to get started on the earlier side. 2-3 months is "standard" and I know many shops offer rush orders in as little as a week.

Is the shop you bought your dress from doing your alterations? What did they say about it? If not, can you call your seamstress and tentatively reserve and ask about the rush?

I had three appointments. My first appointment was 3 months out, since that was the last time I was going to be in the area before the week of the wedding. My second appointment was the Saturday before my wedding (one week out) as soon as I got into town. The seamstress called on Wednesday to say I could come in to try it on to make sure it fit, which it did. The shop kept it overnight to steam, and we picked it up the next day on our way to check into the venue for the weekend.

Depends on the seamstress you go to. The seamstress I chose has her office above her garage so she needs a minimum of 6 weeks. I had to schedule a total of 4 appointments the 4th being the quick pick up. I chose her because she was highly recommended by the shop I purchased my dress from (but more affordable than they were). You should be fine.

Mine took 10 weeks. I had three appointments. In my area you wouldn't get that quick of a turnaround without a rush charge. Look around, but book ASAP!

My seamstress generally likes to have 3-4 months with dresses and several fittings...however my dress came in mid feb and my bridals were the first week of march and wedding late march. She did alterations for me in time for the brial pics...then again after because we realized it needed to be taken in more. She did not charge a rush fee or for the additional alterations, but she was already priced high to start. I think you will be ok. If you touch base with them and say my dress should arrive on x date. How soon can I come for fitting? and how long will it take to get it back? just set the expectations of dates ahead of time.

I am starting alterations 12 weeks before my wedding (wedding in October, starting alterations in August) per the request of my seamstress.

I will have 3-4 fittings between August & October.

My first fitting is on Tuesday (Yay). I'm not sure how many more I will have but I'm thinking a total of three.

I called the place thats doing my dress, Maya Couture. They dont charge for rush alterations. They said as soon as it comes in thats when they will make the alterations appointment. She talked like everything will be fine, so I'm hoping so. But, it seems like I will probably have one fitting. Maybe 2.
