Wedding Dress Alterations

Jocelyn, on July 27, 2021 at 1:21 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 1 13
Hi. I just had my 1st fitting and the bridal salon wants to charge me $406 for alterations. I am having a front hem done and slight strap tightening. This is my dress. Do you think that is a good price for what I need? Wedding Dress Alterations 1

I don't think that $406 is a horrible price for alterations. I feel like pretty much every dress needs hemming and the average price for that is like a couple of hundred. Your dress is pretty by the way!

First off that dress is beautiful, as it looks like it was made for you!

I say that price is reasonable for the work that you want done.
Mine needed a slight hem up front, straps tightened, with bustle and it costs me $530.

Sounds about right. I need similar work done and have budgeted $450 (with room in the budget in case it ends up costing more). Prices can fluctuate based on how hard it is to work with specific fabrics too, not just the type of alterations you need done.

Contact an independent seamstress and you will pay a fraction of that. The $406 is a rip off and they are hoping you don’t catch their game.

$406 does not sound bad. Is this the same bridal salon you bought your dress from? If so, even if you find somewhere to do it cheaper, your bridal salon knows your dress very well.

Thank you so much for the compliment and your support. I was stressing a bit over it. I called them and they told me that if I decide to take the dress elsewhere this week for pricing, they will not have a spot available for my dress to be altered until after November. I'm getting married in September, so I was like ugggggh... what do I do..lol

It is the same and you are right about them knowing the dress. It had very nice material that u don't want messed up.

My alterations cost almost as much as the dress so I would love to have paid $406. I think it's a loaded question as each part of the country has different standards. I feel if you are ok with the price to make the dress look the way you want then $406 is the right price, of too costly for you then think about shopping around

I think being over charged a lot for a lot. Find an independent seamstress if you can.
