Wedding dress alterations

Kristen, on May 23, 2019 at 6:12 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 15
Has anyone else had any experience with the David’s Bridal alterations department? The store told me in the first place that it could take 4 months to get my dress so i stressed out and it ended up showing up 2 months early. They also tried to pressure me into buying the bridesmaid dresses ASAP (my wedding isn’t until October). It’s not leaving me with the best feeling especially after they just went ahead not once but twice and randomly scheduled me for alterations without even talking to me first. Ive been losing a lot of weight so i didn’t want to take the dress is super early Incase i go back in for a fitting and it needs to be taken in more. They claim they only charge one time and if it needs to be taken in more they do it no charge, but i read some reviews that said they got taken for a ride and crazy over charged. I’m not comfortable at all at this point with how they are pressuring me into doing things so early and don’t know if i should look into going else where for altercations.

I would look elsewhere. I don’t like being pressured to buy things and usually end up taking my business elsewhere. Not only that but I have heard reeeaaaalllly bad things about alterations there. About them not doing what they said or not at the price they said. And it sounds like they overcharge for what they do do. Buuut I did not buy my dress there or get alterations there just heard from people who had so it’s second hand. If you feel comfortable going with them then do it. But if you don’t I would take my dress elsewhere

I just had an issue with them.
I got my dress in Jan and they suggested I do my alterations 6 weeks before so I just had my alterations appt last weekend.
When I first bought the dress the 18 was tight on me so they suggested and pressed me to order a 20 even though I was already in the process of loosing weight.
Well 3 months later pass by.
I go in for my alterations last week and they had to take in a lot
And she kept saying she couldnt do a certain bustle so insisted in a French bustle which ended up being 17 points!
The dress did nothing for me so I was really unhappy.

When they gave me the total price the cost was a little over $700 and and my dress cost me a little over 800.
I was very upset bc I felt like they tricked me to order a size up knowing this would happen.
I voiced my feelings and now they exchanged my dress for a size 18. I tried it on in the store to make sure the 18 fit and it fits perfectly.

My wedding is July 3 and the new size dress isnt expected to be here until June 26.

I definitely would use another place if I knew one.

Yes it has me on edge and nervous. I'm just hoping alterations aren't as bad now since it would just need to be a hem and bustle

I’m so happy I didn’t go to David’s! I went to local bridal store and my dress was a little under $400 and my alterations (corset put it, new straps, padding to breast area, bustle) was less than 200!!!

I did go to David's Bridal in October when I first tried on my dress it was in the size of 16. They wanted me to order a size 16 I declined and decided when I was ready I would get a size 14. So in December I was told that my dress is being discontinued so I had to pay for the dress in full $832 w/tax. Which I did and I was told that my dress could come in between now and June. And for me to schedule my alterations when the dress comes in. Told the lady I wasn't doing that at this time. So I got the email that my dress was here, that was end of February/March. Now its April I'm ready to schedule my alteration. I go on the website & my dress is still being sold. YEA. So I call and speak to the manager about my dress. After two days the manager calls and say she spoke to the director and I was given a credit for the difference. I'm using that credit next month to pay for my alterations and they need to understand that I need my dress back in time for my wedding

I have had nothing but great experiences at David’s bridal, ordered a dress that came in about a month when I went to try it on it was way too big, instead of alterations they ordered a smaller size, so I had to wait for that, it fits great, no alterations needed

I would wait until you notice a steady weight that way you don't have to keep getting it altered because David's bridal alterations are expensive! I got my dress there on sale for $599 before tax and chose to let them also do alterations, and once that was finished it was another $540 and I didn't have to do very much. Also it only took 4 weeks for my dress to be finished so 4 months is a bit long

Reading all these responses is really making me worry about price now. I payed around $1,200 including tax for my dress (on sale too) so i don’t even want to think about how much they are going to want. Smiley sad i don’t get why they are pressuring me into getting things done so early.

Take your time with getting alterations done. I was planning a November 2018 wedding but due to new job opportunities and having to move to the city 4 hours away from where we called home the wedding was pushed back to November of 2019. I bought my dress in January of '18 and had alterations done in March of '19 for my May bridals. The price though is outrageous for David's in my opinion but I didn't feel I could trust anyone else with my wedding dress so I "bit the bullet" and paid the crazy high prices

I think I’m going to go to a local reputable place that specializes in wedding dresses. David’s Bridal has been calling and emailing me harassing/pressuring me into getting it done ASAP. Also not to mention they sold my email to a bunch of spam wedding people.

Oh I'm so sorry to hear this!! As long as you know that your local place is reputable and will do a good job, then this is a great idea!!
