Wedding dress alterations!

Cassi, on September 25, 2019 at 12:05 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 7

Hey guys! 17 days till I say I do! I pick up my dress on the 5th (next Saturday!!!) and I'm very curious. Did you justify what they charged as good enough? I actually don't know what is expected here... lol

My seamstress has been amazing and came in so far under what I was expecting (thankfully because I didn't budget properly for that) lol.

A hem for several layers of my dress came in at $70 done by a local seamstress, but I tipped her an extra $10 to thank her for her great work!

I'm getting married the day you pick your dress up Smiley laugh and just picked mine up yesterday from my final fitting!!! After all was said and done I only paid $380 for my alterations and I was very pleased! I have seen girls on here who have paid over $600 for alterations! I think what I paid was well worth the work she did (hem, adding cups so I can be braless, taking it in on the sides and back).

My alterations were only $220 she added a 9 point bustle and added boning in the waist and took it in slightly at the cups. i just didn't know if I should tip on top of that $220. Do seamstresses "expect" tips ( I know no one expects it but more so are they disappointed they don't get one)?

congrats on your wedding coming up! Its so exciting I can't believe how close it is especially for you I'm sure. I keep thinking about picking up my dress next weekend and I'm like holy... crap... I pick up my dress on Saturday and leave for TN 4 days later and get married 3 days after that!

My alterations were around 200 only because I found out I was pregnant and I'll be almost 7 months along so I went and got a corset placed in the back and then I needed bussles

I forgot she added a bustle to mine too lol! Ugh, wedding brain!

I did not tip, simply because she is the owner of the business. If she was not the owner, I would have.

I know! I can't believe it's only 10 days away. This is my last full week of work and I can barely focus as it is. Or sleep. Or eat lol. I'm ready for it to be here! Congrats on your wedding and best of luck on everything!!!!

I plan to tip my seamstress 20%.. I already feel she is undercutting herself especially because she took my dress in 4 sizes and had to take the top completely apart to redo/alter and is only charging me $125... the least I can do is tip because she greatly deserves it!
