Wedding decor... what do you do with everything after the big day?

Solo, on June 10, 2019 at 8:39 AM Posted in Planning 0 19
After the hustle and bustle is over and you said I DO, what do you do with all the extra stuff?
like decorations, left over favors?

i was thinking about selling it on here, helping a fellow bride.

Favors, gave to the kids in my class as a treat (Hershey kisses)
some of the decor I was able to use around my house. Some I was able to sell on Facebook. Some I’ve chose not to sell but I’m not sure what I’m going to do with it. Some got trashed.
If you do sell on Facebook, I suggest listing everything separate. I didn’t have any luck listing it all in one post but once I listed them separately, I had people messaging me nonstop!

You won't be able to sell it on here, bit you can try Facebook marketplace.

We actually just left most of our stuff at the venue. We were married 4-4 1/2 hours from home and left for our honeymoon the next morning. Leaving everything seemed more convenient and our venue happily accepted it. They'll keep some of our vases and donate others to businesses just starting out. They'll offer our table numbers, mirrors and other misc items to future couples who could use them. We did have two frames with signs in them that we took home and placed in a wedding keepsake tote in our attic.

We are moving into a new house that we just bought 3 weeks after the wedding, so some of the signs and stuff we can actually use as décor in the new house (we are using a lot of non-wedding related décor with cute sayings, a metal letter K for our last name, etc.). The rest of the stuff that is strictly wedding related or that we don't want, I will just sell on Facebook for cheap.

I see a lot of people sell it on Facebook Marketplace. A friend let everyone in the wedding party take a set of decorations home as a favor, and she kept a few sets for herself.

We are planning on having a garage sale in August after the wedding, so our stuff will be sold that way along with all the other stuff that needs sold in our house! What doesn’t sell will be listed on Facebook or taken to a bridal consignment shop here in town.

I was planning to donate a lot of stuff to my church. I have a hydration station for instance, whatever is left like leftover cups and the drink dispensers can just all go to church. But to be honest everything I bought was so cheap it doesn't matter if I don't take it with me.

This is honestly part of why we are using real flowers, happily. I don't want to deal with them after. Our guests will be invited to take them. The votive holders are being donated to a group that routinely does events. We may try to sell the photo backdrop setup, but we may also just keep it.

We conciously tried to buy decor we knew matched our style (i.e. we could display in the house or something). I used all of the picture frames around the house, had a few signs we put up in the hallway, etc. I gave my mom and my sister a few things. We still have a ton of random stuff left over like candles and vases. We've just been slowly burning the candles over time and holidays and such. And we have a bunch of linens but I know I will use them for future parties.

You can try Facebook marketplace or trying to give the stuff away to someone who may need it!

I gave alot of my stuff away to my wedding planner so that she could use for future brides. I was very careful with what I bought so that I would not have alot of items leftover

Thankfully, the reception hall provides a lot of the decor, so whatever I bring myself (banners, etc), I will leave for them to offer to future couples. Smiley winking

Some of my decor will double as home decor, the rest I am selling back probably on ebay because I just like the workings of ebay better than having to have someone come to my house or meet somewhere on facebook marketplace. I will have plenty of lanterns to sell back, votive holders, other signs. Some decor I am borrowing from my friend from her wedding so I will give that back to her! I might ask my sister if she thinks anything will interest her eye for the future but she and I have different styles so I doubt it.

Many of the things I’ve bought I have chosen because they can be reused in our home. I plan to sell everything else.

I'll probably save a centerpiece or two but give most of it away. I've seen success with people selling it on Facebook you could try that.

Any leftover food will be taken to the rental house for the after party. I will be keeping some to use as house decorations. We are letting family members take the centerpieces. Some will get trashed. Everything else, I will either let my cousin use who is next in line to get married (Feb 2020) then sell after that.

You can't sell things on wedding wire forums, but I'd try Facebook or Craigslist!

Sell or donate it. This is one reason why we aren’t buying/bringing any of our own decorations and not doing any DIY. Whatever we rent and arrange for the vendors set up, is what they’ll take back with them. Thankfully the venue doesn’t need additional decor. The only things I can imagine being left over from our wedding might be flowers and cake... both of which can be tossed.

Like others on here I suggest selling it on Facebook. It’s a great way to make a little money back and help someone else.
