I'm struggling with this, as well.
I'd suggest googling timelines and advice of how to make them. Also, talk to the vendors/those involved. For instance, if you schedule 2 hours for makeup and discover you need 3 then obviously this is a big deal. Discuss with your officiant how much time they need and plan for it to run long (on the safe side. Plan for everything to run long! Lol) It's okay for cocktail hour/ reception to get extra time but could mess up everything else (ie, photos) if not enough time is allotted.

    Hi there Autumn!

My advice when creating your wedding day timeline is starting at the end, or with any concrete times you have, and work your way backward.

Start with whatever time you reception is ending, and working backward, slot in all the different pieces. Don't forget to include your photographer and beauty team as they will have a big impact on your pre-ceremony timeline!

I'm crazy and I'll admit that right now....but.

I will have timelines for both sides of the wedding party (groom/groomsmen and bridal party). I will also have one printed for guests with location of wedding sponsored activities and time to be there. I quite literally look at a 24 hour calendar style planner and using a pencil, started just jotting down time slots for activities. I will go in and finalize times and locations closer to our wedding date and also color code them in the planner so I can create the final time lines for wedding weekend. We are having a domestic destination wedding so our guests will all be coming from out of town and will receive a timeline/things to do/areas of interest pamphlet in their welcome bag. Wedding party members will receive them in their welcome kits and I will also have boards with big events on them for guests (those cute ones with timeline). Take your time and start with the easy things and fill in as you go along and you will be just fine!

That is so cute and sweet! Now I'm thinking I might want to do something similar for our family members coming from out of town!

Ours is such a DIY wedding I have no point of reference at all!! The one thing we do know is we want to do the first look photos before the ceremony, but are trying to work that out so we aren't too early, wasting the photographer's time, but before most of the guests arrive so I can still make an entrance down the aisle. Our family photos will be after so our cocktail "hour" shouldn't take too long. I'm just so afraid I'm going to spend too much time getting everything to look perfect at the venue that I won't focus on leaving enough time for making me look fabulous! (I'm doing my own hair and make-up)

The timeline that I made Smiley smileWedding day Timeline! 1

We met with our photographer 30 days before the wedding and she asked us questions and then made the timeline for us. Typically, they will do this so I'd reach out to them! I also made a personalized timeline for our bridal party as well as our parents to reference for the day of that I gave them at the rehearsal dinner which helped!
