Wedding Day Timeline: Help me!!!

Kayley, on August 31, 2019 at 7:31 PM Posted in Wedding Reception 1 7

Hi everyone, hope you're all having a wonderful time planning! I'm just over two months away from the big day, and I am having such a difficult time figuring out a timeline/order of events. I'm not super strict on everything happening as scheduled on the day of, but I do want to know a general order of things. I have only ever been to one wedding and it was several years ago so I'm really lost on the order and timing of things. Our ceremony start time will be 3 pm. The reception and ceremony are in the same location and we are doing a first look so I imagine we will only need 30 minutes or so for some quick family pictures before starting the reception. We are doing a buffet dinner. We are also planning on doing a first dance, parent dances, the shoe game, and a bonfire at the end of the night with smores along with a cake cutting and cupcakes. We have to be out of the venue by 2 am but I feel like we should end the reception around 9 or 10? I feel like I have a good grasp of things until after the ceremony which will last about 30 minutes. Any input, suggestions, and help is much appreciated. TIA!!!

That is mine I just copied and pasted for you. We aren't having special dances but our DJ recommended those after dinner if we did want them

I was going to recommend this one too! Jamie has some amazing vids. I have the newest one (reception regrets) on repeat.

Do you need the timeline for just the ceremony/reception or the whole day?

I don't have the whole day done yet, but this is how my event looks so far

    4:30: guests arrive
    4:45: Bridal party arrives

    4:50: groomsmen and groom stand
    5:00 ceremony starts

    5:15: ceremony ends

    5:20: cocktail hour starts (photos)

    6:15: Introductions

    6:20: First dance

    6:25: Toasts

    6:30 dinner starts

    7:15 Cake cutting

    7:30 mother/son dance

7:35: bridal party/parents dance (having bridal party dance with their spouses)

    7:40 dance floor opens

    11:00 Reception ends

The only thing I can strongly suggest is please don't have a 30 minute gap between your ceremony and reception if they're at the same location. I went to a wedding like that and it's just so annoying as a guest. We felt like we were in the way of their photos no matter where we went and we just kinda stood around awkwardly and hungry lol. I'd either start your reception right away (and you can have guests file into the room but not serve food yet or anything, and it'll take at least 10-15 minutes to get everyone into the room and seated anyway...) or have a cocktail hour in between the ceremony and reception. But if you are having everything in the same location you really should not have a "gap" where there is no set place to go / nothing to do for your guests!
