Wedding Date Pushed Back Anyone?

Mrs.2B, on March 21, 2015 at 11:44 PM Posted in Planning 0 5

At the time my original wedding date was for June 2016. But after looking into venue pricing and its hidden fees, and vendors I thought it would be best to push back the wedding date one more year. I would rather have the wedding in 2017. This gives us some more time to come up with the money for the wedding since my fiance and I have to pay for the wedding by ourselves. Has anyone else decided to push back their wedding date for similar reasons?

I didn't really push the date back, however we chose to have over 2 years for our engagement and it really worked for us. The main reason was school reasons (I had a big exam I had to study for last summer to get my Master's degree) but it also allowed us to save and really have the wedding we wanted. It was nice to take our time planning, I enjoyed not having to think about wedding things every weekend for ten months, instead I could think about it when I was in the mood and because of that I haven't felt stressed one bit even now when we're about 3 1/2 months out. It'll be worth the wait so you can save if that's really what you want for your day!

Our original plan was to get married on 2/20/16 which would of put us at the one year engagement. But as some brides I didn't know much about weddings and realized we couldn't afford it and we pushed it back until next June. I'm in a similar situation we are paying 90% of the wedding ourselves because I don't have anyone to really give me money. Don't feel bad! Pushing it back will allow you to get what you want Smiley smile

I am opposite. I got engaged in,Dec.2014 my engagement will be 8months l.I wanted to get married next year and when looking at dates I saw August 1st falls on a Saturday this year, so,after that it was a no brainer..I'm getting married this year. August 1st is my sister's birthday so we pushed it up.Planning a big wedding (150 guests..big to me) in 8months is stressful, but I try to think it just means we will be married sooner. However, I,sometimes wish I had a long engagement just to enjoy being engaged.

Thank you ladies for your responses. @Happy in Hawaii yes I did look at it that way of it gives me more time to take my time and plan it because when we had it at 2016 at first, I was running myself crazy trying to figure out how you plan a wedding and how soon I should start doing things for it.

We didn't exactly push our date back but when we first got engaged we talked about having the wedding July 2014 (we got engaged 06/16/13). However, we knew we would paying for all wedding related expenses ourselves and my sister was getting married 05/14. In the end we went with July 2015 which has given us more time to save and have the wedding we want. Though we still have a strict budget, it has allowed us to pay for our honeymoon and take advantage of great deals along the way.
