What would be the rationale for keeping colors a secret?

The only thing that was a secret was my dress from my husband. Otherwise, if people asked me questions about the wedding details, I shared them.

No point in keeping it secret. But other than vendors, no one really cares about those details so they haven't asked. You choose to share what you want but you get final say in all decisions made.

I understand the mindset of keeping everything a secret to surprise people, but I am an open book about my wedding. Like Hannah, pretty much the only detail I'm hiding is my dress from my FH. Otherwise, I pretty much tell whatever is asked.


Sometimes family maybe asking to in order to wear something that matches your color scheme.

I tend to lean more toward keeping details to myself (if they don't know what you've chosen, they can't tell you their opinion about it), but I think it's a good idea to share the colors. It's not like that's going to stay a secret until the wedding anyway, because it'll be on the invitations, and people may want to know your colors so they can buy things for you or choose clothing for themselves that won't match the bridesmaids dresses.

There is no real need for secrecy. But if you have a Mother, MIL or other relative who is likely to keep giving you things she has bought or ordered for you because they are ( in her taste or way of doing things) just perfect, from invitations to tablecloths which say Hurray we are married in the perfect color aqua or plum you are using, you may with you had told them how much you wanted to surprise everyone, and finish all your plans with FI in secret, then show people when done.

We shared details. That way people could know not to wear our colors (it's not a huge deal if they did but still)

They’re probably asking so they don’t match your wedding party. I don’t see the purpose of keeping them a secret, they’re just colors.

I have always assumed that the STDs, invitations and wedding website are the couple's color scheme.

We aren't keeping our colors a secret. Most of the time when people ask, they are just wanting to make sure they don't show up wearing the same color as the bridal party or don't match the wedding colors.

My assumption would be that they're asking so that they can make sure to not match the colors of the bridal party (or they're just curious). I had a few people ask me for that reason, so that they didn't wear the exact same color as the bridesmaids' dresses. We definitely didn't keep our color scheme a secret, as we coordinated our wedding invitations to go with our colors
