Wedding ceremony/reception on a dinner cruise??

Event Lady, on September 4, 2013 at 10:27 PM Posted in Planning 0 7

Has anyone had their reception on a dinner cruise? I think it would be super fun, but I don't want to keep people on the boat longer than they want or even deter people from coming.

I was seriously considering one as of yesterday (don't ask) haha and it would have been from 5:30-8 after a 4PM ceremony 30mins away, with heavy pupus and an open bar. People were worried about getting sea sick and getting grandma on a rocking boat, also there were food and wedding cake issues with possible rough seas as well as no place for presents!

Why I loved the idea: closed venue so no mess or setup/break down, set hours so no getting out of control, set capacity made a good invite excuse, first dance during sunset, and it's oh so unforgettable and unique!

My wedding approx a month away will be on a boat and it will cruise the harbor so no bumpy seas for my guests. 105 guests comfortably and starts at 5:30-9:30. Getting ready at hotel 6 miles away for hair and make up..then get dressed on the boat. The pros mentioned above pretty much convinced me plus this company had all the vendor contacts which made for a non stressful wedding planning for me.

Keep in mind people that just hate boats, my BIL and my mom are terrified of boats and would never go on one.

There is a dinner boat here in Sarasota. I've officiated a couple of weddings on it and stayed aboard for the reception. It is a a large boat and stays in Sarasota Bay, so no rough water. Not much decor is needed. There were wedding cakes that did not topple over. As far as I know, no one got seasick. There is a walkway onto the boat, so no stepping up or down into a rocking boat. Plenty of room inside in case it happens to rain. Even a dance floor!
