Wedding Ceremony Blessing

Christy, on December 20, 2017 at 3:56 PM Posted in Planning 0 5

FH and I believe we've been to weddings where people tie in members of their family to come up to the altar to deliver a "blessing" or "prayer" over the marriage. Are we correct? Are any of you planning to do this or those that already had their ceremony do this?

We aren't religious but wanted to do a symbolic "unity ceremony" purely for the metaphor of it all. It's definitely a thing if you want to do it.

At my brothers wedding the parents were invited up to have a special prayer/blessing over their wedding. The pastor said the words, and the parents held hands with my brother and his wife.

We didn’t have anyone join us at the alter for prayer but we did include a ring blessing where our rings were passed from guest to guest and they were able to say a prayer or bless our marriage in that way. It was one of my favorite parts of the wedding, but I had under 25 guests. It may be too time consuming with a larger crowd unless you continue the wedding while the rings are passed. We stopped ours and had intentional silence.

Our pastor had a part where he asked our parents to stand and asked if they would bless and support our marriage. Then he asked the congregation at large. It was a nice touch. There are lots of ways to make it special.
