Wedding celebration party after eloping

Jo Ellen , on October 31, 2017 at 6:18 PM Posted in Planning 0 12

Hi! We are eloping out of the country but when we come back we want to have a party when we return at our house. We have 4 acres. I would like ideas for food or catering. Do not what a sit down dinner. Thanks!

If you don't want to do a sit-down dinner, I'd recommend an afternoon cake and punch celebration of marriage (2-4 PM) or a late evening cocktail hour celebration of marriage with heavy passed apps (9PM-midnight). Also, look into tent rentals with fans because July is the dead of summer.

Call a caterer and do a bbq thing or a pig roast. Canoes full of beverages, lawn games (possibly the only time I'll suggest this).

Before you go any further, have a tent/rental company come and give you an estimate for tenting, tables, chairs, lighting and cooking equipment. It's July; if you're in an area that gets wild hot, I wouldn't do it outside at all, but mild hot, you'll need stand up fans.

Do that first because depending on the amount of people, you may be flat out shocked at the pricing.

Stations can be a popular alternative to a traditional plated meal.

We moved it our elopmentbrto September 5 and party on September 29. We are going to rent tents and dance floor and have a DJ. Possibility of 300 people. Also the our favorite college football team has a game that day. If it ends up being at the same time we where going to big screen with it a majority of our family and friends are love the same team!

Holy cow 300 people! That needs to be a big tent! And you need to bring in a lot of bathrooms.... Make sure you can afford to host these many people well, otherwise cut your guest list.

For 300 people I highly recommend calling your homeowners insurance about liability for an event that large with food and alcohol. I don't even think I like that many people

Why don't you want them to sit down and eat?

Why not do an evening (non meal time) heavy passed app reception or stations reception? For that many people you will really really want to look into tenting, insurance, and rentals.

You need seats for everyone and you need tenting to cover everyone.

Get those prices first. Because that will be big.
