Wedding catering (I know I'm going to get negative comments but that's okay)

Nikki, on May 18, 2017 at 11:48 AM Posted in Planning 0 86

My FH loves chik-fil-a! He has been telling me that he really wants it st our wedding. I've always wanted the picture perfect wedding with an amazing sit down dinner. However, I value his opinion and it is way cheaper. I love their food too but I'm not sure it's what I want in a wedding. But I am seriously considering it because I want him to be happy and the money could be spend elsewhere. Has anyone used a chain restaurant to cater? How did your guests like it?

Why don't you order chick fil a as a late night snack, and have something more "wedding" for dinner?

Can you get your amazing sit down dinner and then have Chick Fil A as a late night snack? We're doing chicken tenders and mozzarella sticks around 11pm for drunk munchies!

Hey Nikki, how about getting it as a late night snack, or as one of your appetizers, if your venue will let you bring in outside food? Then you both get what you want!

    ETA great minds think alike

ETA again, or you could have Chick-Fil-A catering as your rehearsal dinner menu

Are you doing a rehearsal dinner? Why not get some trays and do a casual dinner at someone's house?

I love their grilled chicken nuggets and would love it if someone made that finger food (okay, maybe with little toothpicks in them) as a passed app during cocktail hour. I would stay away from the fried stuff though, because once a little time passes, fried things become soggy and gross.

Serve it as a late night dinner, I don't see how you can accommodate any dietary restrictions like vegetarians with a chik fil a menu.

No. Do some nuggets for the cocktail hour or for the rehearsal dinner for the afterparty, but honestly, this is your wedding, not your five year old's birthday party. Your parents, who will probably be inviting some friends and I can tell you this is going to be a hard sell, even if you're paying for everything yourself. And if I got dressed up, got a dogsitter, traveled and brought a gift to get Chick Fil A for dinner (philosophical considerations aside), I'd be annoyed.

When I was catering we had everything from Nathan's to White Castle to other regional faves, but not for dinner.

I wouldn't even do this as a late night snack, because anti-gay corporations suck.

I've ordered Chick-fil-A catering many, many times for work. We order for 30-50 people each time and it's never as good as when you get it in the restaurant. They don't cater fries (only chips) and the breading is always soggy since they either sit in a bag if you order sandwiches or under a plastic lid if you order nuggets. The flavor is still great, but the texture isn't what you want. I definitely wouldn't want that at a wedding. The only thing that's good in catering is the fruit salad and kale salad, but I'll bet that's not why he likes their food

What about surprising him and his groomsmen with Chick-fil-A for breakfast/lunch while they're getting ready? You'll have to have someone pick it up and deliver it to them but then it's just the guys eating slightly soggy sandwiches (instead of your guests who have taken their time/spent money to come to your wedding and are expecting something close to your vision of a sit down meal).

Maybe do it for your rehearsal dinner if you're doing one of those?

I refuse to eat their food for ethical reasons. Their homophobic agenda is a hard pass for me.

Can you serve the chicken minis during cocktail hour or as a late night snack?

They also use peanut oil. If any of your guests are allergic to nuts, you're asking for disaster.

I'd attack some chick fil a platters at a wedding (or anywhere!) but I agree, it's much better for a late night snack than a meal.

Now I want chick fil a.

Lol @Laura, I really want Chick fil a now too.

@OP, I agree with everyone else, you and FH can comprise by having you sit down dinner and then having chick fil a as a late night snack. I think that would be perfect and I would be ALL for it after drinking and dancing.

If with FSTL. If I was going to incorporate take out food from a chain restaurant, it would be introduced as a late night snack (and I'm sure it would be a huge hit). Either that, or I'd serve it at the RD (which can be super casual). However, since it seems as though the cost factor is important to you, I'd guess you don't want to do chain restaurant food AND a plated meal.

I'm not going to endorse take out as an acceptable entrée at a wedding. It might have a place at the most casual, backyard, pool party, BBQ reception, but even then, I think there should be professionally catered choices added to the menu (even if they are uncomplicated, comfort foods).

That being said, I'd probably skip the Chick-fil-A, however it's served. You may recall that they were embroiled in a pretty nasty LGBT discrimination scandal not too long ago. The company's owner made some very offensive public statements that were anti-gay and, I believe, anti-American. The money they've donated to organizations with this type of political agenda is substantial.

I don't want to start a political debate -- I know this is about catering. However, be aware that there are those who, two years later, are still boycotting Chick-fil-A. You could have wedding guests who are among those people (and while I do believe that people tend to get offended a little too easily these days, this is one issue in which people have an absolute right to be offended).
