Wedding canceled due to Covid, bridal shop refuses refund

Carline, on June 6, 2020 at 4:35 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 20

My wedding venue canceled due to COVID, it’s been a heartbreaking and stressful journey and the fact that David's Bridal refuses to issue me a refund for my wedding dress and two bridesmaid dresses is just salt in the wound! They offered me store credit. Why would I want store credit for a $1300 at a bridal shop? All the dresses are brand new. Can anyone offer me advise on how I can sell these dresses and get my money back since David's Bridal won't help??? Any advice would be appreciated.

You can try Facebook marketplace or apps like offerup or posh mark.

I agree with Melle; most other third-party resellers won't give you close to the ticket price because they have to make money when they resell it.

When did you receive your dresses? Their website’s return policy says if your return window ended after their stores closed back on 3/18/2020 due to COVID-19, then you have 14 days to return for a refund after your local stores reopen. If you purchased online, the return policy is only 7 days after you have received your order. It’s very unfortunate that neither the store or online orders is in favor of the customers. Many people have been complaining on their Facebook and instagram, maybe you can try doing that and see if it leads you anywhere. I’m sorry this is happening to you during this difficult time! Best of luck!

That's unfortunate. Some stores, if not all, have a specific return policy and for whatever reason, don't really care about the situation. As far as selling the dresses you can also check out a bridal resale site called Stillwhite. It's where I got my wedding dress but you can post any wedding related dress on there. Good luck!

Contact their corporate office. If that doesn't work, get on the phone to the local news station. You can sell the dresses on Craigslist if you know you won't be using them for another wedding.

Sell it on StillWhite.com or preownedweddingdresses.com.

I would definitely sell it on StillWhite. You will be able to charge what you want for it and you don’t have to deal with shop owners or things like that. Do you plan on just having a small ceremony now or do you plan on eventually having a larger wedding at a venue eventually?

Unfortunately, bridal salons have very strict no refund/return policies. I tried to cancel the purchase of a dress hours after trying it on. They weren't even going to order it for a couple of days, but because I agreed to their policies they wouldn't refund the money and they placed the order for the dress even though I told them I didn't want it. I even offered for my bridesmaids to come in and get dresses and we would use the money from my dress purchase towards the dresses. Their bridesmaids dresses were easily $300+ so we probably would have spent even more on bridesmaids than what we paid for my wedding dress, but they weren't willing to work with us.

Thank you so much for the suggestion. My husband and I just got married on July 11th. We ended up having a small ceremony with 10 of our family members at our apt and zoomed the wedding with the rest of our family. Not the wedding I planned for nonetheless It was beautiful and intimate with just our family.

No way to contact David's Bridal corporate office, they are using a texting system. So you really can't speak to anyone, Ridiculous. Thank you for the suggestion

I ordered my dress in the store in September 2019 but didn't get my dress until December of 2019. I was suppose to get it altered in April 2020 and never got it altered because David's Bridal closed their stores in March due to COVID. So I'm stuck with a dress $1000 dress that doesn't fit. Their policy does not apply to me. Thank you so much for the suggestion.
