Wedding Cake

Angmariee, on August 23, 2023 at 7:51 PM Posted in Wedding Reception 1 19
So I’m looking to keep my wedding cake small and simple which is going to be a 6in/4in two tier cake. Than we are planning to do a dessert table for our guest. Im thinking of not having any greenery or color floral on my cake, and only have the cake topper. Im just concerned how it will look without anything added…. Should I not worry about adding color??? Thoughts?

Not at all! If you check on Pinterest, there are plenty of gorgeous all-white cakes! Are you still ordering from a bakery? If so they can still do simple white on white decorations (like dots or piping) if you want to more than just solid white. Here are a couple different looks (ignore the floral since that’s not what you want, but you can see that there’s still some pattern in the white frosting).

Thank you! We are having a woman who are catering company recommended, she works for her self. So I’m sure I can show a couple of plain white cakes with some texture! Appreciate your help!

Here is our cake - I really loved the gradient she did for me, and the "shells" were a complete surprise. We also did a dessert table, and I had surprised my honey with a groom's cake (yes, that's an octopus on it @@) Our Day of Coordinator added my bouquet to the table as we had a lovely centerpiece on our sweetheart table, so there was no room for it there.

Question: is the cake not going to be served to the guests? That comes across as not being a good host when certain foods are not available to everyone equally.

You can decorate the cake however you want.

Correct, our cake will just be for the cake cutting & to have a piece for us. Like tradition we will save top tier.
Our guest will have a full desert table open to them for the night.

I’m stuck between these two; I have a gold cake stand and our names as our cake topper. Our venue is more rustic I’d say. Wedding Cake 6

If you plan to not serve the display cake to guests as any dessert option, don’t have it for the cutting photos. The only way you can get away with this without being rude is to make sure that there is enough sheet cake that is identical in dimensions (ratio of frosting to cake to filling) of the display cake. Generally sheet cake that is served as a supplement is not equal in size ratio and is half the size of the display cake if it were to be cut. Guests are aware of this though they will never say a word to you. Many people prefer wedding cake over a cookie, pie, ice cream, etc they can get any day of the week.

Congratulations!!!!!!!! Here's our cake, we did this as our cutting cake and had our florist add the flowers you see. It was only $25 for them to add the flowers. Got the cake topper on Amazon Smiley smileWedding Cake 8

What are planning on serving on your dessert table? I personally feel that if you are going to cut a cake, you need to have cake to serve to your guests.

I would order enough cake for all to have a piece if they would like a piece of cake.

Both of the pictures you posted look fabulous! Etsy has a ton of cake toppers and if you wanted to have a more ornate one because the cake is simple, you could do that!

We’re going with a simple cake too just for the two of us and doing donuts for guests. The majority of weddings I’ve been to for the past few years have done small cakes for the bride and groom and an alternative dessert for guests and the cake has seemed more intimate that way.

Guests (myself included) have never complained when there’s a dessert table or something other than cake, it’s all about you and what you know your people will like, so kudos to you for that!
Best of luck planning and post what you decide on!

Thank you!!! Yes Etsy is my favorite!

I love that! Donuts are always a hit, a few of my friends as well in the past year or two have done the same with a more intimate cake and dessert table for their guest.
I totally agree with you, and thank you again! Enjoy your wedding planning!

Agree with this completely! I'd skip the cake cutting altogether if you're not going to be serving cake to your guests. One way to get around this would be to place the cake in a private location at your venue (i.e. not in view of guests) and sneak out for a couple minutes to do the cutting. I personally think the plain cakes with just a topper look very classy. As long as you serve cake to guests, you're golden

A plain white cake can be really pretty and nice, try looking on Pinterest for cake table decor ideas (you can go crazy if you want since it's a plain cake)

It seems really common to have a "cutting" cake and some other dessert for all the guests. Love it! Did you choose one of the two yet? While I love semi-naked cakes (and that's what I'm serving), to me the fully frosted one with the texture is more elegant and looks more finished without color. Good luck!
