Wedding cake?

Alexis, on June 28, 2022 at 11:28 AM Posted in Wedding Reception 0 9
I’m having Venetian hour for dessert, included is also two extra stations, gelato and fried dough. Do you think I need a wedding cake!?

I would say if you were and want to do a cake, make it a small one (size of the top tier to a traditional wedding cake). That's if you want to do "cake cutting" pictures and enjoy some on your wedding day. So that way your guests can enjoy the other desserts you plan to have and it is less likely that cake will go to waste.

I personally love the look of having a wedding cake but it sounds like you've plenty enough dessert already. if you are tight on budget, i'd axe the cake

It sounds like you have plenty of dessert and don't NEED a cake, but if you want a cake then go for it! You could also do either a small cake just for cutting or share one of the other desserts you're having if you just want the pictures/ experience of cutting and sharing a dessert with your spouse.

You don't need a cake. A venetian hour is extravagant and includes multiple cakes and other elements. However, if you want to do the feed each other pose, you can go with something small. We did ours holding macarons, not forks.

You could do like a two layer cake and get those cake separators! They look really nice, I wanted to do it but I’m afraid it would be too high because our cake is already 4 layers. These are all from Etsy.

Definitely don’t need it. If you WANT it, go for it. But if you’re just concerned thinking you “should” don’t worry about it. Cake was something we skipped and it was not missed. As long as you have dessert — and yours sound incredible! — you’re all good.

The main question here is do YOU want a wedding cake. You are offering plenty of dessert option so I don't think a cake is needed unless you want one. You can also do a faux cake for pictures (one layer will have actual cake, that you can slice and feed each other). Happy planning!

What are the extra stations? Some people look forward to cake at weddings and they are disappointed because they feel they can get ice cream, cookies, donuts, etc anytime and that they are not as special as cake. Also there is a misconception that faux cakes and cupcakes are cheaper than regular cake when they are often more expensive. Whatever you serve will be appreciated as long as there enough of each item for each guest to get at least one.
