wedding cake size

HisQueen, on April 5, 2017 at 1:36 PM Posted in Planning 0 16

Do you get a wedding cake base on your guest size. My fiance cousin got married 6 months ago, she had a wedding of about 130 people and only 25 percent of the cake was eating. she took the rest home. My friend got married last year and she told me to not get my cake base on my guest because it will be a waste. I have a guest list of 133 people and I am thinking of getting it to serve 75 people. Has anyone experience this at their wedding? how did it turn out for you?

I am getting enough cake to serve all my guests. We are serving it right after dinner.. you could always get cute to go boxes as your favors, but I do think you should have enough cake to feed all your guests

We're getting enough to serve everyone, plus a top tier to freeze. You can get the cake boxes/bags for cheap at craft stores if you're worried about having too much so others can take a piece home

I'm definitely getting enough cake for everyone. If there are leftovers I may just take it to the nearest retirement home and donate it. It's not a big deal to have leftovers. What's a big deal is not having enough.

My venue as well as several other venues I researched advised me of the same thing. That said that to go small and have an extra regular cake in back if needed because it's cheaper.

I think having that much less is too much... I can see if you have 133 and servings for 120 but only for 75, you could be making a mistake.

we are having a dessert bar and having cake for 75 (we are inviting 85) , I figure it would be ok.

Get enough to serve your guests, id be PO'D if I went to a wedding and there wasn't enough cake. Get enough to feed 133 at least. I've noticed cake tiers go up by 50 though for each tier so technically you might get enough for 150

Take it from someone who has worked at a wedding venue for years. Not EVERY single quest has ever eaten all the cake at any wedding. We throw away a lot of cake. Especially if the couple doesn't want to take it home. I'm having about 90 people at my wedding and got a cake to serve about 70. We are also doing an ice cream station.

Our cake is only served about 40 people, and we are taking the first layer home to freeze, we are doing two more sheet cakes so we have enough for every guest. We will actually end up having way extra based on this thinking.

Are you serving any other dessert? Are you cutting the cake right after dinner or later in the night? I think those 2 factors will influence how much cake you need.

I don't think you need to buy a ton of extra cake out of paranoia if it will probably go to waste.

If you are doing other desserts I would only get cake for half. Many brides on here have commented on not liking cake and doing other things too. We are just the opposite. I had wanted a cake twice the number of people for our destination wedding and had to switch bakers because the first would not provide the 3 tiers I wanted. We are renting the event home for a week and wanted cake for after the wedding.

I ordered a cake for 75 people, 50 attended the wedding, and there were only 6 pieces left to box up. Clearly, our cake was delicious!

Thank you for your comments. I don't want to take any left over's home , and we are not having any dessert table. we are having a 3 tier cake which can serve about 80-100 people my baker told me.

I do like the box idea to have them take some home. IDK still have to think about it.

We definitely ordered enough cake for everyone to have a slice, and then a little extra because we had two different cake flavors. We knew we had guests who would notice the two different flavors and want a slice of each. The venue also planned to serve us slices of cake at our sweetheart table and deliver additional cake slices to our room to enjoy after the reception.

There was some extra cake. The baker had provided boxes for it so guests could take cake with them. I did not see the amount of cake that was left over but I did see guests carrying full boxes of cake back to their rooms after the reception ended so I know some of it got eaten.

You shouldn't have to still think about it. You have good advice on this thread, the other advice you were given is terrible. Get a cake to serve all of your guests. If you don't want leftover cake, leave it, throw it away, or as others have suggested, bring boxes so your guests can take extra cake to go as their wedding favor. Add a sheet cake to the tiered one you said you were ordering so it will be less expensive, if that's the issue.

You should get cake for the amount of guests you have.
