Wedding Cake Delivery

Christie, on March 22, 2019 at 4:21 PM Posted in Planning 1 6
Alright, I might be going crazy, but I'm considering using a local bakery that doesn't offer delivery. Wedding cakes aren't really their specialty, but they do make them and it's a lot cheaper than anything else I've found (about $2.50 a slice!) I love this bakery and everything I've had from them has been delicious. They've totally open and encouraging of my crazy cake ideas.

The bakery is about a half hour/20 miles away from my venue and it's all pretty much straight highway. But, they don't deliver. My venue can't keep the cake overnight. I can probably have someone pick it up the night before, but I'm not sure where we can keep it. The only option I can think of is if someone gets an Airbnb we might be able to keep it in the fridge.

The other option would be having someone get it the day of the wedding. It's buttercream and my wedding is in October in Maine so I'm not worried about heat. I just don't know who would have time or if I'm creating an unnecessary complication.

Does anyone have any other ideas? Or should I give up on this?

Unless you know someone who has transported a cake before or your cake is only one tier, I wouldn’t do this. Transporting a tiered cake, even mostly on highway, isn’t going to be easy, and you’ll have no options if the cake gets destroyed in transport.

Do you have an aunt that you can delegate day of pick up to?

I am picking up my cake or having someone pick up it up for me. Mine is 3 tiers but I'm going to ask them to box each tier separate and put it together at the venue. Not the best option, but it's what I have to work with.

I wouldn't transport an assembled cake more than 2 tiers tall. But if you can get someone to pick it up, the tiers can be boxed separately and assembled at the venue. I brought a 4 tier cake to my sister's wedding that way.

We are having FH's cousins pick up ours while we take our family photos/couple photos.

I am picking up our cakes the day before the wedding because the one bakery that FH and I could agree on doesn't have any delivery availability the day of our wedding. We opted to go with two TWO-tiered cakes, versus something higher so that we don't have to worry about transporting them.

I am so grateful that we have refrigerators in our cabins on the venue property so that I don't have to worry about a place to store it!
