Wedding Cake Delivered

Alex, on June 23, 2020 at 9:49 PM Posted in Wedding Reception 0 13
My fiancé and I are trying to decide if we want our wedding cake delivered or have someone pick it up. I like the peace of mind with having it delivered, but it’s a small two tier that could potentially be managed with pick up. Delivery is also about half the cost of the cake. Is it worth having it delivered? If we pick it up, what are some tips and things to consider?

As someone who has personally accidentally damaged at least two birthday cakes in the car, I would normally advise delivery but I also don’t think delivery fee should be half the cost of the cake. If you do decide to have someone pick it up, I would recommend one driver and a second person go with them to keep it steady in the car. Ask the bakery if they have a sturdy box to transport it - since it is two tiers it might have an open top. The box’s base is the important, as the tricky part is sliding it from the box to the table. Hope this helps! (I wasn’t kidding about me damaging cakes - my family has banned me from carrying any cakes whatsoever 😅)

Let the pros deliver it for you since they know tricks to not damage it during transport.

My cake delivery is more than half the cost of my small two tier as well but as a pp said, you would be responsible if you damage the cake. I think of the area I live in and the amount of people that do not know how to drive. If their delivery person messes it up then it is on them to fix it at no cost to you but if you damage it then you are responsible. Is your venue far...mine if a good distance from my place. But ya know with the cake and delivery and the fact they do it on a Sunday, much better deal than a Publix cake.

My venue requires the cake to be delivered so I would double check your contract regarding that or reach out to the point of contact.

Delivery might not be cheap but it'll be cheaper than a wasted cake if something goes wrong.

I would consider speaking to the vendor about a slightly discounted delivery fee (if the distance really isn't that far).

Something to factor in, depending on the distance between your vendor and the venue, most cake vendors have refrigerated vans/cars. If the cake has to travel far, or in hot weather, you definitely want it refrigerated!

I personally would have two people go and pick it up. I’m very cheap and like to save money whenever I can. Use a box with one side cut so you can slide the cake in and out with out having to reach over the cake to get it in and out.

My mom picked up our 1-tier cake. But for two tiers or more, I’d probably pay to have it delivered.

Definitely delivered. They have experience in that area. You don’t want to risk a disaster with an amateur transporting your cake, simply so you can save money.
