Wedding Blog

FutureMrsWolff, on May 10, 2018 at 5:00 PM Posted in Planning 0 9

Hello!!!! I am considering starting a blog to document our wedding planning journey. Majority of my family and friends live in a different city so I though it would be a fun way to keep everyone up to date! What do you fellow soon to be brides think? Is a wedding website or blog better? Does anyone have any particular sites you recommend to get me started? Thank you in advance! Smiley heart Soon to be Mrs. Wolff!!!!!

Word-press has some good options! I'd google what you are looking for in a blog though, and it might be worth it to pay a little if you want the page to look cute and have different features!

Honestly, I'm not sure anyone other than your Bridesmaids would be interested in the blog. You could use Google Docs to share your ideas etc. You could keep a private journal. Just my opinion. Enjoy the journey Smiley smile

As a fellow bride, I would enjoy following someone's wedding planning blog.

But I agree your friends and family may not be the best audience.

I think you might find the fewer people you keep “up to date” the better. As soon as you start sharing, you start getting opinions back!
The advantage of a website is, you share only the details once they’re polished and set in stone. It’s not a medium for feedback, unlike a blog which is. It’s also hard if you’re changing plans as you go (if I was blogging as I went, 3 months ago people would’ve read of plans to have a welcome reception at the house! But a lot has changed in 3 months and that’s not the plan at all anymore. If someone checked th blog casually but wasn’t staying completely up to date, they might make the wrong plans— this is especially pertinent if you end up getting rid of something as the budget starts to get crunched, and people get disappointed you did away with the band afterall).
I’d probably stick to a website, with important need to know information.

I agree with this. Oversharing means you may get lots of unwanted opinions. Also, do you really want family and friends to know all details about your wedding before the big day or would you rather they all be surprised and excited on the day of the wedding? Something to ask yourself.

I did a website because it only took a couple hours and it's done and looks great. I don't have to think about updating it and I can focus on wedding planning. I used Zola. They have some great templates to use and you can include info about your wedding party, photos of you and FH and Things to Do in town for your OOT guests, etc. It was a lot of fun to make!

I agree that a blog dedicated to documenting the wedding process might not be interesting to many people. You could always just put some wedding planning details on social media to keep people informed.

I'm so glad I found this site and forum. I'm so excited to get married and I literally just today thought of starting a wedding blog myself, but I think the comments have convinced me to hold it off for a bit. Thank you and I hope your wedding was wonderful. Before the pandemic must have been wonderful!
