Wedding bags when all guests are staying at different places?

Alexandria, on January 15, 2018 at 10:50 AM Posted in Planning 0 9
I live and am getting married in Italy on Jan 4, 2019. My family will be flying in from around the US and Mexico. I do want to do welcome bags as a gesture for making the long trip to be with us, but all my guests are booking through AirBnB, VRBO and other vacation rental options because it’s cheaper and they’re all coming for at least 10 days or more (which is totally ok with me).
My question is, how would I go about delivering welcome bags to guests all around the city? It’ll be too hard. I am having a dinner for all out of town guests (my family) on January 2, but the dinner is 2 days before the wedding and guests will be arriving before Christmas or the day after so it’ll hardly
be a “welcome bag” if I pass it out then. Thoughts?

We had the hotel distribute the bags for the people staying there and then for everyone else we brought them to the RD/welcome dinner (we invited all our guests as it was a DW). I think bringing them to the party would be fine. As long as it's before the wedding it's still welcoming Smiley smile

Don't have welcome bags. They aren't necessary. Do favors or give in person before the wedding if you arrange everyone to come together in 1 location.

Hmmm...that's a tough one. Unless you feel like going around to all the different rentals to deliver them, I would probably still just give them out at the dinner, since that's the "official kickoff" of the wedding weekend. I'm assuming people are going a week before just to make it a longer vacation and that there's no wedding-related activities during that time? So it may not be a "welcome to Italy" bag, but it can be a "welcome to all the official wedding stuff" bag.

Also, while nothing besides a marriage license and an officiant is "necessary" for a wedding, I think welcome bags would be preferred over favors every time. We did welcome bags, and our guests were very appreciative of them! I'm always given a bag when I go to a wedding, it's pretty standard.

I think handing them out at the RD will be just fine, it'll be a nice surprise for them and I think they'll understand you couldn't have them delivered when the arrive. Trying to coordinate drop-offs for when they are in the rentals will be a headache, especially since they're likely treating this as a vacation and will be out doing things.

I think that giving them out at the RD will be great even if it is a week after they have arrived. However, I would tailor it as a welcome to the wedding gift and not a welcome to italy and wedding gift, if that makes sense. If not the second option I would consider is going to each place they are staying at and giving it to them, and I still would do this over giving out favors.

Yeah you’re right, people are coming beforehand because since they’re traveling from so far away they want to do some sightseeing. I like the idea of making it a “wedding weekend” welcome bag. We’re also giving favors because it’s an Italian custom and unheard of not to give favors (although I could do without). We’ll probably do something edible or a bottle of wine as my opinion is that’s most favors get tossed in the trash or a drawer never to be seen again 😜

That’s a good idea, but what we’re giving favors at the wedding because in Italian custom it’s a non negotiable (although I’ll make them either edible or a bottle wine so as not to render them totally useless) so what could I put in the bags as a “welcome to the wedding”?

I found a local vendor my my DW. She will design, put together, and distribute the bags to all locations for me (its extra for multiple locations). Look for someone that does the same think where you are getting married.

If it were me I would hire a courier/messenger service to deliver these.
