Wedding at casino?

Kenya, on January 11, 2018 at 8:00 PM Posted in Wedding Reception 0 20
So my fiance and I have done some venue shopping and the place the happens to have the best deals is also a casino. The ballroom of the casino looks nice but I'm just worried about what our guests will think. There are spaces there for both ceremony and reception. I attached a photo.

I would be concerned with the noise especially during the ceremony. I know some people who would be put off in that environment but it’s your choice.

I've been to a few weddings in our local casino and they were great. One even saved money on the alcohol and dj by moving the party to the bar with it's own DJ after dinner and reception usuals.

I mean you could have a lot of fun with decorating and such at a casino, and personally, I would love to go to a casino for a wedding, I would likely make a weekend of the affair. Granted, there may be more conservative people that would grimace, but as long as your reception and ceremony areas are separate from the casino floor I think even they would be ok.

I just toured our local casino ballroom this week. I absolutely love it and never considered guests wouldn't like it .

I'm actually really excited about it.

I haven't quite got that far in the planning. I was trying to pick a venue first so the theme wouldn't clash.

If your guests are comfortably seated, fed, and supplied with good drinks, I think they'll be just fine. Smiley smile

I hate casinos because of the cigarette smell... imagine your wedding gown smelling like cigs?

Can your guests get to your ceremony/ reception area without crossing the gaming floor if children are invited?

Yes. There is a separate entrance. The ballroom is on the third floor with floor to ceiling windows that overlook the race track but that's it.

I've only been to the casino two in my life, and both times it smelled like cigarettes. Is this something you've considered? I have no idea if it would impact the area of the casino you're in, but that would be something to think about. That would be one of the last things I would want to remember my wedding smelling like since it's not an overly pleasant smell and people with asthma may have trouble breathing.

I wouldn't because Las Vegas smells like cigarettes all the time. I'm always very upset when I have to go to Vegas, get dressed up, only to instantly smell like smoke, and constantly breathing it in.

I think it would be a lot of fun, as long as there's a separate entrance! Is it local to you and most of your guests? I'm a big fan of having a wedding where people could make a weekend out of it, like a PP said. I've been to a lot of weddings that were gorgeous, but also middle of nowhere, so I ended up driving a few hours to get there, go to the wedding, then drive home the next day. I specifically am planning a wedding where that is not the case. I think your guests (or at leas the majority of them) would love the option to hit the slots a bit. I know I would. And you could play up that casino theme too if you chose to. (I'm playing up the obvious somewhat cheesy theme for mine, for the benefit of the guests)..

Also, your pics don't necessarily look like it's in a casino. I mean it looks like a big ballroom (not like there's a poker table in the middle or anything) Windows look great and I think you could do a lot with the space. Great idea!

ETA- PPs are worried about the smell, and full disclosure, my sense of smell is almost nonexistent, so I cannot speak to that aspect.

My only concern would be people leaving the wedding to go gamble in between. Casinos do bring out the gamblers out of people! I know I would be tempted to go play some roulette for a few minutes... Smiley sexy

I was an event planner at a casino for years. I imagine there is a separate entrance that does not require walking through the gaming floor. When people cringe at casinos, they are thinking of the gaming floor. The banquet areas (where I worked anyway) were gorgeous and it honestly felt like a whole different place. Our events never felt like "being at a casino". A casino can be a great, inclusive venue. The only concern I can see is the smoke smell, and again, if the layout of the building keeps the banquet area away from the smoking section, I can't imagine that will be an issue.

The only problem I ever truly had with the casino event spaces was decorating. Floors in casinos are specifically designed to have really wild carpets which can clash with the decor of your wedding. My only advice in that area is to pull colors from the carpet rather than fight them.

Mines at a casino and people are SO excited about it. They have 3 different ballrooms for events. Totally opposite side of where the casino actually is & then the hotel in between. The venue was all in-clusive and absolutely the best deal. Even our wedding planner is amazing. AND not having to worry about transportation after the reception is amazing. People can go up to their rooms whenever. The room discount is unbelievable too. People traveling far are booking 2 nights haha.
