Wedding Arch

I’m having my wedding on a deck overlooking a beach-so very windy. My dad is excellent at making wood things, chairs, pergolas, desks-so I asked if he would feel comfortable making our wedding arch and I thought it would be a nice sentimental thing to eventually add to my garden. I think he’s happy to but has some reservations about logistics. Like wood is heavy, how will it be set up (who will set it up) and most importantly how will it be safe and sturdy with the wind. Anyone who had a beach wedding have any advice or input on what did or should have done on the wedding arch? Did you have a 3rd party set it up (I don’t think our venue will help)?

We had this dilemma when we wanted an arch for our ceremony and to have it moved to behind the sweetheart table for the reception. Our day-of coordinator and venue was not able to assist with this. (I chalked it up to liability issues - the fully decorated arch is heavy.) I was prepared to ask the groomsmen (after all, there were seven of them) to do it during cocktail hour. Since we ended up renting the arch through our florist, they were able to do the setup/transport/teardown for an extra labor fee. 🤷🏻‍♀️

Hey Nicole! I love that your dad will be able to make this for you, it will make an amazing garden feature also - great idea!
I checked out Pinterest to find some examples of wedding arches and see how they stand upright. Have you considered making one that is more three-dimensional, or even has its own base so that there is less of a risk of it falling over? I’ve added photos of what I mean.
