I got married this past Thursday in a civil courthouse ceremony. I would like to send out wedding announcements to family I could not invite and include pictures, but the photographer said the pictures will not be ready for another 2-3 weeks. Some of my guests have already started making social media posts about the wedding and I was wondering when I should make my own social media post to announce my wedding. Should I wait until the printed card announcements have already been sent?

I think it's fine to post now. Wedding announcements aren't really mandatory anyway.

You can send them anytime you wish. Announcements are optional. However don’t wait for your photographer to send thank you cards out.

Could you ask your photographer for just one or two pictures now, explaining it is for your thank you card? It's what we did, and we explained what photo we ideally wanted (ie, one of the photos from this spot, at this time during the day). He sent us one or two, plus we had the one or two he'd posted to his instagram page/stories to choose from as well. We did not wait until we'd got all of them back, which is lucky - it took him just shy of 9 weeks to get our full set back.
