Wedding Annoucements- let the meme throwing commence

FutureMrs.DCT, on August 15, 2015 at 10:52 AM Posted in Planning 0 7

So I 've been pondering posting this since yesterday, and finally got the guts to post about it. Is anyone else doing wedding annoucements? We are having a small wedding with just family, and ONE very close family friend of FH's. In order to share the news with others who are not invited, but are more than just acquaintances (at least on our yearly Christmas card list) we are going ot do wedding announcements. They go out the day of the wedding, and basically just say Jack and Jill got married on this day.

I really wanted to bring this up because I felt it could help those brides whose mother/FMIL want to invite the world, but there isn't enough room at the venue. This might be a nice way to tell them "we can't invite your friend from first grade Mom, but we can send them an announcement". Just a thought.

I know some will think this may look gift grabby, but no registery info would be on the announcement (just like an invitation).

Let the meme throwing commence. Smiley smile

There's nothing wrong with what you're doing, but here's a meme for you anyways:

Wedding announcements are an age-old thing, definitely not tacky or gift-grabby! We aren't doing printed announcements because we really didn't have to exclude anyone from our guest list, but we will be putting an announcement in the newspaper and my alma mater's alumni magazine.

Yeah, I don't see anything wrong with this. I think wedding announcements have simply become less common because people announce their engagements and marriages through social media. I used to love reading the announcements in the paper, but there aren't many anymore. Go for it and show us your announcement when you finish it!

(Oh, and we're putting one in our alma mater's magazine too!)

I am not aware of any problems with sending announcements.

I think it is perfectly fine to send a wedding announcement and a good compromise for those who have Mom's and FMIL who want to invite the world. Here is a meme as requested. ETA: Snarky and Ashley... those are hilarious!

I am doing wedding announcements. We *could* have invited more people (both of us really wanted it small), but certainly not the whole family no matter what we did (heck, I have over 100 FIRST cousins) so they will really come in handy. We really want to include our pro pics (unless perhaps we get some amazing cell phone stuff), so chances are they will end up wedding announcements/holiday cards.
