Are you following either of the anniversary gifts by year? Either the traditional one or the modern one?
The first anniversary for the traditional gifts is paper. You could do a canvas/painting/drawing with one of your wedding photos (or wedding vows) on it, tickets to a concert/sporting event/etc, a book (a cookbook, the next book in a series that he reads, Book Of The Month club subscription), etc.
The first anniversary for the modern gifts is clocks. You could do a watch, or a wall clock that's themed towards something he's interested in, or an hourglass for game nights, etc.
If not doing either of these, what types of things is he interested in? Maybe do a gift that's geared towards one of those hobbies?
There is a great first anniversary gift that you can get online, it's a rainbow making window sill sundial that you can have custom made with inscriptions and date lines for special days. It makes a great gift because you can have a date line for your anniversary that the sundial time shadow will follow on your anniversary day each year, and you can even get a special moment mark that the time shadow will touch at the moment of the ceremony...check it out, you can Google to find it. It is an awesome gift and if you are short on time you can get a gift certificate and work on the project together!
You could do a couple's experience with each other. Maybe a weekend getaway at a nice hotel suite and room service. Or maybe pick out his favorite foods and/or drink and assemble it and make a surprise date night. Or you could probably search on Etsy, they can cute gift ideas.
