Wedding and reception location

Holly, on May 15, 2019 at 12:03 PM Posted in Planning 0 6
Just curious is anyone having their wedding in one location and then the reception in a different location? We are having the ceremony in our home town out on the lake. The only problem is our home town is small so there really is not a place big enough to hold the reception. I have found a place I am interested in having the reception at but it’s about 20-25 minutes away. I am fine with having to drive there but I just wanted to here what you all are doing/have do.

A lot of people who hold their weddings in churches do this and it is fairly common. 20-25 minutes is a perfectly acceptable drive time between the 2.

It’s not the most convenient. But it definitely does happen, especially with church weddings. 25 minutes isn’t horrible, if the reception location is somewhere near hotels where out of town guests can easily get to afterward. Also, keep in mind that you might have a smaller number of guests at your ceremony than at the reception because they selected to only drive to the reception. I’ve experienced that happening based on the time of the ceremony.

I am doing this! It was an interesting way to cut costs, and there’s only 10 minutes drive between the two. Hoping no one minds 😔

Oh well. It's not his wedding, is it? He'll get over it. Lots of weddings have the ceremony and reception in different locations. It's not that unusual.

Yes, we are having our ceremony at a church and the reception is on a vineyard about 15 minutes away. Our ceremony is from 4:00pm to 5:00pm. The cocktail hour of the reception starts at 6:00pm. Between 5:00pm and 6:00pm we will be taking photos at the church and guests will be going to the hotel where we have our block. We are having a shuttle bus pick guests up from the hotel and bring them to the reception venue, this way no one has to worry about having a DD. The shuttle bus will be dropping them off at the hotel at the end of the reception. We are not doing a first look, so during the cocktail hour we will be taking photos (weather permitting) on the grounds of the vineyard. I hope that explanation of our timeline helps you figure your out! Best of luck!
