Wedding and reception at same place

Jada, on December 17, 2019 at 11:14 PM Posted in Planning 0 15
I’m doing my wedding and reception in the same venue , so my question is do the guest sit at the tables while we exchange vows or do we change the set up as we transition into the reception ?

Usually you would set up for the wedding then have a cocktail hour in another location of the venue to transition the room for the reception

But you could do it the other way to, I've seen it on 4 weddings. Its actually our backup plan if it decides to rain on our wedding day

Okay so like move the guest to another room for 30mins to an hour ? Or could I just have them set up the ceremony in a way my guest won’t have to move ?

Yes a cocktail hour can be in a smaller area, were you not planning on having a cocktail hour?

Otherwise I have never heard of using the same setup but maybe others here have!

Ha you can also reach out to your venue about planning the ceremonies.

Many people have a cocktail hour between the wedding and reception to allow time for photos and serve drinks and light appetizers to guests during this time. You could also transition the room from ceremony to reception with that hour. Good luck!

We’ll be doing the ceremony and reception in same place. The venue will have all the tables pushed to the side during the ceremony. All of the guests will go into a courtyard for the cocktail hour while the venue flips the space.

We’re also doing ceremony and reception in the same place. A few groomsmen will move the ceremony chairs over to where the dinner tables are once the cocktail hour begins, and our guests can pretty much mill about in both the ceremony and reception area during cocktail hour. We’ll have everything else set up ahead of time so there’s no need to transition.

Most venues have a different arrangement for the ceremony than the dinner. I've been to weddings where the same space is used, but the guest relocate to a second "cocktail hour" location while the main area is being rearranged. At most weddings I have been to, the ceremony area and dinner area have just been separate locations at the same venue. I've never been to a wedding where guests were seated at the dinner tables for the vows.

    We did this.

For the ceremony, we had a traditional set-up, guests were moved to the foyer area so the room could be changed over (the staff was very efficient, and a lot of the cocktail hour spilled over into the main room, since it was set up so quickly), and then had tables for the reception.

Talk to your venue, they generally have plans for this. Smiley laugh

Depends. My future SIL did that for her wedding and we all sat at the tables as they were married basically on the dance floor.

We had our ceremony and reception at the same venue, but they had different locations for each one. We looked at one that the back plan in case of rain was to have the ceremony in the same room as the reception. In that instance, we would have had the ceremony then cocktail hour would have been held in a different location while they flipped the space from the ceremony setup to the reception setup. This is rather common. I would definitely check with your venue to see if there is a space that your cocktail hour can be held while they flip the room.

For us, we were initially going to do have all the guests seated at the tables during the ceremony. But since then we've hired a planner/decorator so she and her assistant are going to flip the room after the ceremony. We talked about it many times and we love her ideas. If she wasn't in the picture doing all the work, we would definitely have had all the guests sitting at the tables during the ceremony.
