Wedding Albums

Desiree, on September 8, 2019 at 4:07 PM Posted in Planning 0 11

Sorry, didn't see "the perfect" spot in the forums for this! Just need advice on post-wedding pictures that I am trying to plan Smiley smile

I have a wonderful photographer picked out already. She did our engagement photos, and we immediately hired her for the wedding. She is just fantastic, and very flexible on prices. She encouraged me to look at some wedding packages on her website that include the photography and wedding album. I love the idea of a wedding album, and truthfully it's a must. But her wedding album starts at $650, and goes up from there. How does this compare to any wedding albums you all have included in your packages, or even paid for separately? I really really do not want to low ball her at all - I'd prefer just to say yes or no to adding it to our package. It seems high, but I don't know if that's truly what the industry average is for it. I love her work, and probably would be willing to pay it - I just want to double check before I sign any contracts.

Thanks all Smiley heart Happy Planning! Smiley smile

For comparison, our 8 x 12 wedding album (30 pages, linen/leather cover) in our photographer's package is costing us $1450. This includes any photo post-processing and touch-ups as necessary. Additional pages are an extra charge.

We will be creating the parents' albums through a different service for cost savings. For our engagement album, we used Artifact Uprising and it came to under $200 for a beautiful lay-flat book.

I would check out albums through Artifact Uprising or Shutterfly, they’ll undoubtedly be more affordable than $650.

I think this is going to depend on what is important to you. From what I’ve seen there is a big difference between a photo book you order from any one of the online photo sites and the albums put together by photographers, unfortunately the price does seem to follow haha.

I was originally going to go with a photobook from shutter fly or similar as you really can get great quality for reasonable prices. But I did some research on the brand my photographer was offered and started to learn where the price came from, process of putting it together, quality of materials used etc etc. Even my husband when looking at the albums at the studio immediately saw the quality difference, so we splurged on the fancy album (over $1,000 and as the poster above said extra pages are extra).

Do some research on what your photographer is offering, and think about what you truely want and hope for out of your album. If it’s something you deem highly important, you want something very traditional and it’s in your budget, go for it. But don’t feel like to HAVE to. Also, if you’re still on the fence, ask if you have the option of adding it on latter. Our photographer told us we could order the album separately up to a year after the wedding and the current price would still be honoured, we just decided to go ahead up front because I was worried we would put it off and never do it lol

It's true! I might just ask for it for Christmas or our birthday or something like that Smiley heart I definitely need to check out the quality of hers in person too, because I feel like it'll totally be worth it once my hands are on it as opposed to trusting an online site. I'm sure I'll just fall in love with it. Smiley smile

Yes! I’m very tactile I like to be able to touch things and hate shopping online lol. Asking for it for another occasion is a great idea! Originally I was thinking we could get it for our first wedding anniversary since it’s gift is “paper”, but then I remembered what a procrastinator I am and said stuff it 😂

I love those wedding anniversary traditions too!!! Yes! Smiley heart I'll probably do the same thing because my family thinks it's weird since everything is so digital these days - But I'm very old fashioned and hands on too, it's just a must have for me as well.

No.. we didn't include a wedding album with our photographer. It's much much cheaper to do it yourself. Shutterfly or buy your own album get the photos printed professionally and put them in the book yourself. If you have a good eye, it can come out wonderfully, if not just have shutterfly put it together for you.

Do you get a print release? We had a print release in our contract, even though our photographer prints albums if you want. We just ordered from Nations Photo Lab (they had good reviews) for an album so I'll post about the quality when we receive it. It was $100 during a 50% off sale.

I ordered from Nations Photo Lab and the more expensive ones I like with the leather covers, but I'm not sure the quality is GREAT or anything I'd order again.
