Wedding After Party Wording

futuremrs444, on September 29, 2015 at 8:12 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 8

Our reception is ending around 7pm and we want to direct people to a bar near our hotel. We are thinking about renting it for four hours but its going to be cash bar for guest. Can I put something on the program to direct people but how do I let them know they have to pay for themselves?

I would just not say anything about you having it rented...people would, I think, expect to pay for themselves at a bar. If you say something like "after our formal reception is over, we will be heading to xyz bar to continue celebrating--you are welcome to come along if you would like!" that might work.

On an insert card in our invitation we directed people to our website "for more information." Then on our website we had an After Party section where I mentioned that we'd love it if they could join us for a no-host after party. I think most people generally assume an after party at a bar isn't hosted, but that's an easy way to remind them.

I don't plan on putting anything about the after party. I did put it on our wedding site. There is a bar at the hotel so we plan on hanging out there. I may order so tray of bar food but it would be cash bar

I wouldn't put it on the program.

For every after party I've been to after a wedding, the location was simply spread by word of mouth. I'd rely on that over placing anything 'official' in the program!

I'd just spread by word of mouth. Anything more than that, I'd worry that people think it's hosted.

I agree to not mention that you rented it out since, to me at least, that would suggest that you were providing beverages. In addition to word of mouth, you can ask your DJ to make an announcement at the end of the night.
