Wearing rings on honeymoon: yay or nay?

Futuremrst, on August 15, 2019 at 11:05 AM Posted in Honeymoon 0 28
Who is planning to wear, or has worn, their ring set on their honeymoon? We’re going to Walt Disney world for a week in November and although my rings have both a lifetime protection plan as well as jewelry insurance, I’m still a bit iffy on wearing something expensive in a park or even traveling with them. Hearing others’ experiences may put me at ease! If you didn’t wear your ring set, what did you do as an alternative? Also attaching pictures of our rings from our wedding because I love them so much, and if you’d like to as well please do! 😊

We didn't, we both wore our silicone rings to Hawaii because we did a lot of activities & hiking & swimming and didn't want to worry about our rings.

We're honeymooning in Hawaii too and were contemplating the same thing.

My fiancé proposed to me in Disney! And while the ring was 3 sizes too big, I refused to take it off while there. I was just really conscious about making sure I kept my fist closed so it wouldn’t slide off. If it fits properly you shouldn’t have to worry about losing it. And you could still take it off when you go swimming to be extra cautious. If you really think you don’t want to travel with it, you could always get silicone bands to wear. I’ll likely get my fiancé one at some point to wear while on the boat or doing sports.

We just did a TON of outdoor stuff and there was no way I was wearing my ring while doing it!

I've worn my E-ring for every trip. The only exception was port days on our cruise. 1) those were "high activity days" and 2) I didn't want to make myself a target while walking around in a foreign country by having something sparkly on my hand. I wore my silicon ring on those days. FH will likely wear his even on port days for our upcoming cruise just because it isn't blingy like mine.

One of the reasons I chose not to have an engagement ring, and to have only a plain gold band for my wedding ring, was to avoid questions like this. I want to be able to engage in athletic activities, walk home late at night, travel in foreign countries, etc., without always having to worry about losing my ring.

I probably won't be too worried about my engagement ring while we are on our Disney World honeymoon, but I will probably lock it up on our Disney Cruise. Just because I plan on a lot of water time.

Thank you everyone! I’m not so much worried that it will slide off my hand, so much as it getting banged up. I’m not much of a swimmer and neither is my husband so we won’t really be going in water, but because my e-ring is a high profile setting it does occasionally snag on things! I also have a (slightly irrational) fear of losing a stone and my ring being damaged, but it would be able to be repaired for free so that’s pretty much a nonissue.

I have never taken off my ring in 2+ years but I guess that’s just me. I have it insured so if something happens I will replace it.

I bought a cheap set off Amazon to wear during the day on our honeymoon (we took a cruise) and then wore my actual engagement ring and wedding band to dinner at night. I didn't want an empty hand but didn't want to worry about losing my rings while we were doing other activities.

I think it’s all about what makes you more comfortable. I don’t like wearing my ring doing anything active (hiking, swimming, kayaking, haven’t been to an amusement park since getting engaged but that I’d feel a little nervous about). Anytime I don’t wear my ring out though I always panic for a moment when I realize it’s not there 😅 but what about wearing either a silicone ring or finding a cheep ring that looks similar to yours? I know people who have done that for traveling or while theirs was getting resized.

After reading through these, I'll probably leave my e-ring home while we're honeymooning. Silicone it will be!

We did 8 days/7 nights at WDW for our honeymoon - we both wore our rings and neither of us had a problem with our rings. My ring is in a cathedral setting, so very high, and didn't get banged up at all.

We also wore them when we were back at WDW this past February and had no issues.

If you are going to Disney I think you will be fine to wear it. I got engaged in Magic Kingdom and continued to wear my ring throughout our trip. It was the exact right size so it wasn’t spinning or easily falling off. I was cautious to make sure to keep my hand in a fist for any roller coasters. We are doing Disneyland for our honeymoon and I will probably wear mine then but lock it in the safe when we do the cruise (not disney) part of our trip.

Your ring is stunning, and the lifetime protection plan sounds like a lifesaver Smiley smile

I bought a cheap sterling silver ring off Etsy for our Jamaican honeymoon, since my engagement ring is pretty much irreplaceable (family heirloom, essentially) - it was cute & I never worried about it being too flashy, plus I can wear it as an accent ring on my right hand if I ever want to!

I take mine off sometimes for work and for some sports. Otherwise I wear it all the time. I feel that if you have a quality piece of jewelry, it is going to be able to withstand daily life and being banged up a bit. You can always have little scratches buffed out if they bother you that much. I never remember my mother or grandmothers taking their rings off, and none of them ever had issues. I think part of the nervousness is just because it’s something new and expensive, kind of like when you get a new car you’re much more focused on keeping it nice than you are a few years in.

I don’t wear my diamond engagement ring when I travel, only my wedding band. It’s too big a risk for me— being active and it falling off or the diamond falling out , taking it off for an activity (like swimming in the ocean) and misplacing it , or leaving it at the hotel and having it stolen. Or worse going somewhere where flashiness makes me a target. I feel MUCH more secure wearing only the band, even though the band is specifically designed to match and not really as a stand-alone, it serves the purpose for vacation!
