Wearing my original wedding gown

Shannon, on March 8, 2017 at 11:46 AM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 30

My husband and I are planning a 25th wedding anniversary vow renewal & party. We will have approx. 120 guests, a DJ, dinner, open bar. The vow renewal will take place at the banquet hall before dinner. We will not have an ofciant. Our 3 children will be walking with me to wear my husband will be standing and we will say our own written "vows" to each other.

Is it ok if I wear my original wedding gown? I plan on having it re worked to make it more in style and less "churchy" (no train or veil). Kinda want to make it shorter & add a tule skirt that is removeable for the party. My dress usn't white either- it's a very pale ice blue

Congrats on 25 years! I love that you're wearing your original dress. I think it would be beautiful with or without the alterations you mention. Please come back and post a picture of the transformation--I'd love to see it!

Congrats on 25 years and even having the option to wear your original wedding dress. I'm jealous, I can't even fit a pair of jeans from 3 years ago.

Yes yes yes! How special to wear your original dress to your vow renewal. I love it!

Please come back with pictures :-)

ETA- I also kinda hate you for still fitting into your dress 25 years later. #I'majealousbitch

I say that's completely your decision. I was thinking shorten it to a tea length before i finished reading. Keep in mind that it may cost you more altering it then just buying a new one but again i say go for! Congrats!

Thanks everybody. I will post pics when its done. Wont be till August 31, 2018 tho lol!

As for fitting in my dress after 25 years (it's actually too big; 125 lbs when I got married, 115 lbs now)..... eating very very clean, doing HIIT workouts 3 x's a week and playing ice hockey. Honestly tho the clean eating is what helped me drop the most weight even over the exercise.
